What Traditional knife do you miss the most?

Most of all, the only knife I've ever lost, the Joseph Rodgers British Navy clasp knife that my grandfather gave me as a kid. It looked a bit like this.

Yep, it's a sad fact of life here in the G2 household, but I have a feeling I'm not alone. I know some of you guys/gals can and do hold on to all you get, I surely wished I could do that but, I am not that solvent to be able to afford it without taking funds from my day job, I won't do that, as then I can't enjoy it if I know it takes away money from my house and family. Just the way I grew up, buy what you can afford, so selling knives to fund new ones or making sheaths and saving up is about the only way I get new toys. Also a few friends have sent me some nice folders which I greatly appreciate and those don't get sold.

Right now I'm at a pretty low point of my collection, due to some bills from my silly ankle :( but I am trying to save up some pennies to take down to GEC open house and see if I can find something I can't live without there ;)

G2
I've given a bunch away ;)

I'm with you on the not taking money out of the household budget
I quit drinking in '98… Since then, I put away $20 a week into my toy fund (the household comes out way ahead) and I choose very carefully.
Add to that I'm the child of depression era parents and I don't spend money easily...
Personally, once I eliminated impulse buys and use the "3 day rule" I'm not buying things that I could do without.
Well… there is that CS Magnum Kukri…
But I was paying shipping on the Victorinox kitchen knife for my wife already… honest!
;)
But I'm doing much better now.

So for all you kids out there… put a quarter or dollar or dime a week in a pickle jar and wait for it to add up :D

A Barlow my Dad gave me. I lost it dove hunting. I'd give just about anything to have it back.

I really miss the switch blade knife my grandfather gave me, he was a WW1 vet and had carried it there. But I was young and stupid and traded it for a bullwhip I wanted more, at the time. Been looking for one like it ever since, bone handle small metal push button in the handle with 4 inch blade.

A Robeson Shuredge Serpentine Jack in Rogers bone, I traded it for a cheap switchblade in Texas before I realized my mistake the guy was gone. :(

Still miss my Puma I got in 1970 . I'm not sure of the model # but it was close to my Buck 110s . We were teens hanging out in the forest preserves when a Forest preserve Cop seen it on my belt and decided to break it against the curb . Not wanting to see such a nice knife broken I told him to just keep it , which he did .

For the most part, I don't miss any of the great knives I've traded, sold, or given away.

The only knife I really miss is my first knife that my old man gave me. I can't even tell you what kind it was. I always thought it was a victorinox, but it had wood handles and was about the size of a cadet, but it didn't have all the implements.

I lost it one day. It fell out of my pocket while playing in the woods. I hate pants with shallow pockets.

A two blade Taylor's Eye Witness lambsfoot which belonged to my father. I borrowed it as a young kid and gave it back to my old man a few years ago. He had given it up for lost and when I heard him lamenting it, I fetched it and returned it to him, ashamed. I love that knife.

About 8 or 9 years ago, a split & later divorce from my ex-wife, had me get rid of everything I owned (including all of my previously owned blades & guns). It was 18 years in that relationship, and infidelity, (on her part), caused me to not want any material thing that had ties to our time together. So, it all went, and I started from scratch. Anyhow, there was one particular fixed blade knife made in USA by the original Blackjack company, a knife labled 'Shining Mountain Bowie', that I remember my being very fond of in my former collection. Here is a pic I found online of this model knife... it was very nicely done, and that thing was as close to razor sharp as I had ever had a factory sharpened fixed blade knife be... Oh well, my new collection of goodies is now doing well... guess I can't cry over spilt milk :)

A Puma Prospector I bought around 1974, the back spring broke within a few weeks of purchase and I never sent it in to be replaced.

Miss my Ken Erickson slippie...

Ouch! I bet you do miss that one...

My dad gave me a Buck 505 when I was probably 13 or so, not long after he and my mom divorced. It slipped out of my pocket at the fair on "The Zipper" when it flipped upside down. I wish I had that one back.

Robeson PocketEze dogleg jack, D2, autumn bone.

Never actually owned it. Saw it in a sale, got loot, by the time I returned it had gone

Kicked myself ever since ... been a whole year now

Othrwise ... I had a cutdown British Army bayonet from my Dad. I used it camping and canoeing for years and years ... one day it was gone. :(

Love Night Court, also a great episode!
G2

edited to add, glad to see I'm not totally alone in this ;) good stories guys and sounds like some nice knives have moved on to new homes and some are lost in the wild, hopefully found by a loving and caring family :)

Thank you Davek14 :)
That's where I was coming from :D

There is one knife that is gone that drives me crazy.
It was a little Imperial Peanut that I bought as a kid.
When I got to HS I got caught up in that bigger is better thing and didn't carry the peanut anymore.
My mom appropriated it and used it for cutting out sewing stitches and other little tasks.
It lived in "her" drawer by her seat at the kitchen table.
She passed in '88… Pop sold the house in '98.
The Imperial was in that drawer up until we packed up the house.
Cute little thing… square bolsters, yellow delrin, button shield with a crown on it.

Great thread G2!

The only one I really miss is the old Keen Kutter EO I gave to my father in law. He still lets me sharpen it sometimes though.

OK, I'll play here. I do miss my Charlow clip/pen long pull ebony that I sold to a peer where I work....but after I sold my #85 Jack to a great fellow that is a full time contributor on this very forum....I became increasingly remorseful about letting it go. I emailed him to see if I could buy it back ...but it had been gifted to a friend. Sooooooo...what did I do.....found and ordered a replacement.

Getting nice & worn & darker with every passing week.
