What traditional knives to take to Paris?

I just read your GEC thread, are you based in Europe? If so, that changes my previous post in this thread.

Just because I'm an American I took my Camillus Official Boy Scout knife. Made it through Britain and plenty of western Europe with no problems and it handled all of my knife needs. Two trips to Paris and I've still not made it up the Eiffel Tower.

One last question for sigman and others who have been to Paris: Any problem toting an Opinel No. 7 into museums and such? I'm not worried about carrying/using it out and about, but I'm wondering if I could, say, get into the Louvre with it in my pocket.

I very much doubt that you'd be able to get a knife into the Louvre. It's one of the highest-security areas in France, outside of an airport. The French take their art very seriously. They have metal detectors and X-ray machines at all entrances. And upwards of 1000 security guards.

Hello,

Courty is a very nice place to go; Go with your family to visit "Place de la Bastille" and take half an hour to go (alone ) to "Armes Bastilles" (www.armesbastille.com). You have here the two more famous knives shops here in Paris, owned by the same nice guy. maybe you should be able to find an opinel like this:

Take a look here too, for nice Opinel... but watch the last pages...

Been a while since we did the "touristy" bit but seem to remember on one occassion being in a queue for one of the museums and having a near heart attack when I realised that I still had 2 hand forged Hunters from the show in my shoulder bag. Turned out ok in the end though, as I am due to be released from this French Prison cell sometime this year !! :D:D:D Just joking you guys !!
All I did was check in my bag at reception before going around the museum, which seems to have been the policy at most museums but as I said, it was a few years ago so might need to be safe rather than sorry.

If you absolutely have to, bring your most replaceable knife. In recent times, knives have developed a bad habit of disappearing from luggage.

I'd say not to bring any so you really have an excuse to stock up.
