What Type of Enjoyement do Your Knives Give You?

Interested in hearing what kind of enjoyement your knives bring to you. Whether that be collecting them as safe queens or EDC'ing them. My enjoyement comes from collecting them. If I like a particular knife, I'll try to get two of them. I also enjoy the hunt for the knives. It can be frustrating, but when that knife arrives in the mail, you realize why you went through all of the troubles of researching for hours on end to find that knife.

For me, it's simply learning more and more about my hobby and my collection. :)

I love when I carry them day in and out and then a legitimate need for a blade arises and my knife comes to the rescue. That moment of cutting whatever needs to be cut makes this hobby worthwhile for me.

Multi faceted for me. There are so many variables that it is hard to define. But I have a strong inner core of outdoor use running through as a main theme. That does not preclude however random irrational lust buys. I have NEVER used my Rajah 2 for anything but a photo shoot once, but I like it anyway, go figure.

Some of my knives serve the same purpose that your Rajah 2 does, except I can't take pictures to save my life. Sometimes I get the desire to fondle one of my knives. I sit there on the couch watching T.V. and fondle whatever knife that I'm having an 'itch' for.

I do also enjoy using my knives. Knowing that I'm the only one in a relatives house with something to cut another thing, kind of makes me feel like a hero and that I saved the day. I get a lot of enjoyement in cutting things. Watching the blade slice through objects with ease is really gratifying.

For me it's the basic pleasure of using one of man's oldest tools. A knife is a handy thing to have around. It's a useful artifact, as well as a piece of male pocket jewelry. For the past year and a half, my edc knife has been a Case damascus peanut with jigged amber bone handles. The blades are Devon Thomas raindrop pattern, and it cuts great. Opens all kinds of packages, mail, cuts twine, guts panfish, cuts bait, whatever.

I don't collect knives, and only have what I can really use in my day to day life. Being retired, I get out fishing much more, canoeing, camping, and a nice sharp knife is needed sometimes a few times a day. Then there's the enjoyment of helping out someone who needs a knife. Seeing a nice lady struggling with a package, I enjoy neatly slitting open the box for her, and demonstrating that a knife can be a good thing.

Carl.

I know. I am always finding a little pile of knives beside my easy chair or on the shelf next to it, within reach. I clean it up and then slowly but surely I start taking them out again. Right now on the shelf is the Raja, an orange Endura, a Becker necker (eskabar), a ''Rucksack'' sak, a tiny officer sak, an XL Voyager clip and a large Voyager clip. Likey some others. I have seen a 110 there, an old original large Manix, or a Ka-Bar Mule. Lately there have been Moras beside me. Hell I've even had machetes sitting next to that chair. I hurt no one and just fiddle fart around with many cutting tools outdoors, so I figure that it is harmless fun. The warden is so used to seeing my knives, hatchet or whatever beside my chair that is is a non event. Like seeing a book laying there.

I'm a fondler. Best time is watching a movie with a knife in one hand a one of my wife's erm...yams in the other.

I enjoy just seeing the differences between the manufacturers and models, and keeping up with new technologies like locking systems and blade steels.

Other than their utilitarian value and convienience, I like folding knives because I like mechanical things. I like things with multiple and/or moving parts that work together to serve a purpose.

I like knives in general because I like basic tools that give us as humans the ability to overcome the obstacles and difficulties of life. I especially like simple tools that I can easily carry around on my person.

I get great satisfaction when I cut something that is difficult to cut, but yet I am able to cut through it easily because of the quality of my knife. Every time that happens I feel like my decision in choosing that knife is fully justified.

I like some knives as "knife jewelry". I don't mean safe-queens or knives too pretty to use, I mean knives that have a refined, high-quality look to them and are athstetically pleasing as a result. The knife I own hat fits this description is an Al Mar SERE 2000. It just has a look that is very pleasing to my eyes.

And then of course there is the little kid inside me who just thinks that knives are cool.

I found a few blade shapes and knife weights to suit my needs. Blade steel is secondary at this point but was king for a while. Now I just like using them, but I must say I need them to be fairly rust proof as I live in Florida. No 8cr for me. I have a handful I use and the rest I sold to pay medical bills. Maybe one day I will collect again but now its the ones I USE that put a smile on my face.

Heh, I know exactly what you mean. I was working with a plumber the other day. He had to cut a plastic garbage can in half. His knife couldn't do it, so he punched a hole in the can and started using sheet metal snips on it. I cut the can in half in about 10 seconds with my well sharpened knife. He was impressed.

Real men (and women, ;) ) think knives are cool too.

My d2 was fine. 8cr developed small spots on my tenacious. My Kershaws had no such issues. Right now I have 440c, sandvik, VG 10, s30v, and m390. My gf's condo is in Daytona. Salt air is my prime suspect lol

8Cr isn't a great steel though ;) D2 is much better, so you really aren't missing out!

I like knives for a lot of reasons, most of them you listed. Though, I sometimes wonder if its just my adult mind trying to rationalize the little kid in me saying "That knife is totally cool!! Buy some more." :D

I love my knives primarily for utility. I live on a ranch and spend a fair amount of time doing the usual ranching activities that utterly abuse what I carry. I have to say I even consider my scratches and chips sort of marks of pride. That being said I can't resist fondling them- watching tv, playing with my laptop, or working at my desk. They are great fun to keep my hands busy while I think. Also, and despite not being that great at it yet, I love sharpening and maintaining them. Its truly satisfying to take a knife that I've worked over that couldn't cut butter slice cleanly through paper or shave hair. Oh and honing oil smells wonderful.

I know what you mean about the scratches and chips. I like to think that each one represents a battle wound. I like knowing that my blade might've came out bruised and battered, but in the end, I was victorious.

I love some of your guys answers. Reading these gives me a new perspective on knives and why I truely love to collect them. It's also teaching me about the different tasks that everyone puts their knives through.
