I`m just trying to get a feel of what direction I should be going in my knifemaking, so humor me. You can choose more than one, and please explain why these are your choices.

Some Examples

Neck Knife ( 2 1/2" - 3")

John, I selected "Folder" because I almost always have a folder of some kind in my pocket. Might be a SAK, might be a Sebenza. Lately, it's been a Laconico folder. But my favorite knife to carry is a 3-5" fixed blade--I have a couple of those. In my mind that range is the most useful. (Ironically, as I type, I've got my EWOK in my pocket :).)

A trim EDC folder, that is compact, and usually 3-3.5 inch blade, parhaps a small or large Sebenza, Benchmade 940, or a Spyderco Sage 2

I usually carry my Spyderco Cat, but am also fond of the little pack knife you made me.

Actually, I carry 3.75" when I can. It's harder to find a fixed blade that's about 2.5", yet has a handle that fits all four fingers. I like my Bark River PSK, but it's small, only 3 fingers fit on the handle.
Once the blade is over 2.5", the handle should fit 4 fingers, IMO. Once the blade hits 3.5", and 4 fingers fit on the handle that's all the knife I need, on a daily basis. Really, the weight and length of the sheathed knife is just as important. The knife will spend more time in the sheath than in use. I personally want to be able to sit, yet not have the knife in my ribs, and fit under my shirt.
Picky? Maybe I am, but that's what I like to carry. If I'm camping, I may go bigger, just depends on the trip.
I do also carry a folder, Case Canoe in the pocket.

I picked Neck/Pocket,Medium and folder because I almost always have a folder on me, then when I don't I've been carrying a 3" blade Mini-bushcraft I made and a 4" blade Famine Survival Tanto I made.

I have a folder on me at all times or so it seems. I have a small fixed nearby too. The pocket scandi you made me is in my backpack when I am at work (which isn't more than ten feet away at any time). I have several big choppers and a lot of medium sized bushcraft knives, however I feel the smaller knives provide the function I need and they scare the fewest people.

If I'm carrying a fixed blade, it's a small one. Most days just a Vic Farmer.

folder goes in the pocket every day, unless I'm visiting a federal building - then the sharpest thing I carry is my car keys.
Kansas law says no concealed fixed blade carry -- so the small fixed blade lives in my pocket only when I'm on private property (home or friends') or camping.
I rarely carry a larger fixed blade around the property unless I have a specific task in mind, then the blade suits the task.
While I love choppers, my preferred carry seems to be in the 4.5-6.5 range.
One of my all-time favorite knives, before I picked up a JK-O, was the Ontario TAK-1 -- perfect sized handle for me and a good all around blade length.

You can never have enough small fixed or folders. They are accessories, like shoes just way better! :D As for choppers and large fixed blade I only need a couple. I would like to see a thin folder with a 3" blade tip down carry.

I always have some sort of folder with me so I chose that one. When hunting season rolls around I like a 3 1/2"-5" fixed blade.

Personally I usually have two folders on me. Im not able carry a gun concealed, so I usually have I bigger folder on me, like a Cold Steel Rajah II or a Benchmade Bedlam. (both for tactical use) That being said, I dont get in many knife fights, so I don't use those blade that much. With the exception of when im on the trail, camping or hunting. I'm specifically talking about the Rajah II here. My blade that sees the most use would be a small folder. Something along the lines of a Spyderco Delica, Ambitious, or my new (still in testing) H&K Soldat, just to name a few. Those blades are the ones that see the most use, just because that blade size, IMO, fits my needs the best. To me anyone who say they use their 6" to 7" inch knife the most, I call BS. Thats just me though.

I carry two knives on duty usually a extrema ratio mpc and a Emerson A100*one in each pocket, I also
Carry a 4 -5" fixed blade in my patrol bag. On my own time I usually carry Chris Reeve Umnumzaan or
Chris Reeve Sebenza and a Case slim line trapper. When I am Hunting/Fishing/Camping/Hiking I usually carry a 4-5" fixed Blade, plus in a bag or pack I have a 2" -3 1/2" fixed like a Esee izula II
TOPS Tracker scout or kabar eskabar 14. I prefer fixed blades but folders have their
Place also.

If I am not in the woods, than I will take a folder and a small fixed blade at all times. If I am going to be in the woods, there is always a large chopper with me.

i always have a folder on me, for ease of carry mostly. Sometimes i like to carry an Izula, and the biggest fixed blade i occasionally carry is a HEST. In camping, woods time, outdoors, things change, as the only folder i take, if i take it anyway, is a sak with a saw on it, a farmer usually, and always a fixed blade, most of the time with a 4 inch blade, and sometimes to a max of 6 inch.

I always have at least one folder with me and either my EWOK or my rule #9. The EWOK is a little more friendly when I'm in cities where the law may not like knives.

Hi John -

I ALWAYS have my Vic Waiter with me. Always have, always will.

I then rotate a larger "pocket-clip" folder into my pocket, and this is the primary focus of my knife collecting affliction if you will.

When I go into the woods, I always have at least one or more of my JK Knives - my Kephart, my Combat/survival, my Knatchet (it goes every time now...), you get the idea - I like to rotate them. So in the woods, always a JK fixed blade as an accompaniment to my JK Knatchet.

So, as you can see - it is the Vic and another folder that you will always find me with, and it will be a special recreational occasion that I have my beloved JK's with me.

best regards -

I definately see a trend here, and I`m really pleased with how many voted! Now if only more of the voters were posters here, I might keep this forum open after January!
