What type of knife do you spend the most money on?

I know this will vary by quite a lot and people have different purposes for their blades that might warrant a higher cost.

For example: Some might say they would spend 150+ on a good EDC because it is the knife they carry and will use the most and thus get the most out of it. Others might think your nuts for spending that much on a knife that will only be used on cardboard boxes or strings.

Others might spend it on 7 inch+ fixed blades because they believe they will get a nice knife that won't break under hard use and still have an edge after. While others believe coarse work only requires a coarse knife so why not just get any tough steel that is sharpened instead of banging away on a 200$ piece?

Which kind of knife do YOU feel deserves the extra money and why?

I spend the most money on high quality 3.5-4" folders. ($150-$600 apiece). I also have my fair share of custom fixedblades for field dressing and processing deer etc.

EDC folders, simply because I will always have it on me and I appreciate high quality. $180.00 -$650.00 is my comfort zone. Think of it as a fictional mans jewelry. I get attached to my EDC, so why not spend money on quality. It also says something about your personality just like a piece of jewelry does to a woman.

Forged daggers and slipjoints.

Yes the daggers are not what I need in a knife I use, the slipjoints are. I enjoy owning them as well as using the slipjoints and I like supporting the makers who in my opinion craft the most difficult knives of any type to make.

No doubt about that.

I tend to alternate between mid priced folders ($225 or less) and fixed blades. Lately I have been buying custom fixed blades, I've been bitten by the bug. I need a good folder for edc and I do a good bit of camping and out doorsie stuff so I get use out of both folders and fb.

I have picked up 4 Custom fixed blades here in the last month and I can see many more in the future and will be selling most of my production knives as they are only Safe Queens anyway and I figure if I am going to have S. Q's it might as well be Customs 95% of the time.!*

Bastid, those are some very attractive examples above. The GTC marked folder is unlike anything I've seen and it is sweet!

I have yet to find an edc that does more for me then a SAK so I spend money on fixed blades. Haven't found the perfect one yet but I'm close.

Forged custom knives, nowhere near as fancy as Bastid's though. Mostly outdoors camp, utility, wilderness knives with an occasional fighter thrown in.

I'm currently buying things that I can use for EDC. I'm not spending a lot of money on anything because of my financial situation but I've sold a few items from my other hobbies.

+1 on the "stuff I like" comment. I'd tell you specific makers I closely follow but I don't need the competition.

Folders without a doubt, I dont often walk around with a sheath straped to my hip, but tuck a folder in my my pocket every day. one or two nice fixed blades is all I need, I will only get use out of them in deer season. but a folder is always with me and they get use. since I dont buy knives to sit in the closet. folders (usually benchmade and spyder co., recently a cold steel. I definetly see a Sebenza in my future. I like the comment about them being funtional mens jewlery. I kind of feel the same. An accessorie of sorts that serves a purpose

I Don't Care How Much A Knife Costs, If I Like It, Then It's Worth It.
The Knives I Spend The Most Money On Are My Folders, And I Love Ti Frame Locks.
I Have EDC'd Or Carried Most Of My Knives Regardless Of The Cost.

If I Think It's Worth It, I Don't Care About The Cost.

The majority of my money has gone to high quality folders, mainly framelocks, HOWEVER I did just purchase my first little custom fixed blade(from Alan Davis) after I was browsing the Knifemakers exchange....haven't even received this one yet and I'm already thinking about getting another. :D
