what type of motor?

I want to make a belt grinder that can go horizontal and was wondering what type of motor is it that can be mounted derectly to the frame of the machine?

You're looking for a c-face motor. Sometimes you can buy adapters as well.

A C-Face motor will mount directly to a plate, but your going to watch for how much shaft you have sticking out past the plate to mount your wheel to.

I just looked at the handbook and a 56 C-Face motor has 2.06 inches from the flange to the end of the shaft. Subtract the thickness of the plate and a little clearance, and that's how much shaft you have to mount your wheel to.
