What type of oil do you use?

Hey guys, i was wondering what kind of oil or lubricant do you use on your high carbon blades? And do you coat your whole blade with oil or just the cutting edge? Thanks

If not using Renaissance Wax (most often do), I generally use either Boeshield T-9 or Eezox. If, however, the knife is going to come in contact with food, I use mineral oil. Always coat any piece of steel that I can reach (blade/tang/edge).

Butter flavor PAM works particularly well, and your sheath will smell like "the movies"!

When I'm not using that I use mineral. And why would one just coat the edge?

I coat the whole blade personally.

The rules here are pretty easy.

Treat others with respect.

If it is not directly about knives, post in the correct forum

I use Balisol (largely mineral oil) over the whole blade and in the pivot for folders.

No joke, great for long periods in the field too so I don't have to carry around a bottle of oil. Its food sanitary too.

I give the whole knife, scales and all, a light coat of mineral oil if I'm not using them for a while. Otherwise I don't oil them.

I keep my knives clean and dry, and I don't store them in leather sheaths when not in use.

Therefore, I don't use any oil. :p

I put chapstick on mine, smells nice

I do to when out in the field; wipe the elk blood off, clean with an alcohol patch (if it's a non-stainless steel), wipe with chapstick and back in the sheath----it's just wax in a convenient container, OP. :)

In the field I wipe it with a petroleum jelly cotton ball from my fire kit.
Elsewhere it's whatever oil is handy. Doesn't seem to make a big difference. If I'm going to cut food I'll wash the blade first if possible or wipe it down.
