What TYPE of survivalist are you?

Personally, I just really yearn for the "olden days," when people had to think in order to survive, rather than having life handed to them on a platter. I guess I have it a little easy, since I've lived in Maine most of my life, and always had the opportunity to just wander off into the woods for a few hours whenever "civilization" got too overwhelming. To me, anything more than a knife and some rope seems like a luxury. I'm not planning for a revolution or a major disaster; to me modern society is insanity, and walking off into the woods counts as a visit to the therapist (and yes, I do realise the irony of writing that on a computer). Anyway, to sum up, 'survivial' isn't what I do in the woods; survival is what I do when I'm not in the woods.

I was raised in the cold war/civil defense era. I carried an M1, used a slipstick, and had an alphabet prefix. Prepairedness for the unexpected was how I was raised. My parents house had a full falloutshelter basement, shooting range and storage for the essentials for a family of four for one year. I guess you mingt say it is in the blood. Self reliance is a habit. I do enjoy most of the conveniences of modern life Hot water, electricity, grocery stores. But have lived without them at various times and places. I know not to expect the Government to protect me, feed me, or support me in any way. I will protect and support my family and close friends to my best ability. This requires me to invest in certain habits/skills/items that might be useful under any number of social/polititcal/natural
desaster related disturbances. I have witnessed first hand Tornado,Earthquake, Terrorism, police excess, and riots. Both domestic and abroad. I am not paranoid just prudent. Besides I'm a gear Junkie. It is a good excuse to play with new toys.

Cheers,

ts

Just as somebody said above, I just plain old don't like that Mr. Murphy popping up! How often does that little folder come in handy? Cutting food items open, loose thread on that dress shirt, and those damn CD wrappers are just plain devastating! ...you never know when you might need it, but it's there. Now what if/when you get put in a situation where you might need warmth, medical assistance, nurishment, etc...and there's no help? Knowledge is the best defense against physical/mental decline and/or death. ( a little bit of kit is also pretty handy too )
