My Cara cara (SS all black combo edge) has some significant play even when its resting.

Then when I hold it by the blade and slightly pop it down it opens easily with little effort.

The screws on the CC are so damn small and not common I don't know what type of tools to use.

I know somebody here knows the right tools for the job.

i have a similar question, only i need to tighten the screws on the pocket clip. it's developed some wiggle after all the gripping and drawing i've done with my caracara. still a great knife though :)

the blade does open very easily after the use i've put it through. perhaps a bit too easily...

I use torx screwdrivers. T10 size for the main one and T6 for the small ones. Be careful not to overscrew as you can damage the screw or driver itself especially for small ones.

I think they are also called star screwdrivers.

I'm not sure loctite is a good move as you may wanna tighten it up in the future as well.

Good luck, I love the affordable byrd lines of the Spyderco, just hate the China sign and miss the spider on the blade :)

I have my eye on a Phoenix, D'allagra and Native (version 3 not 4 cause the blade is thicker). I currently own a Manix and Cara Cara and I absolutely love my Manix! No "China" and a nice Spider with S30V on the blade!

Good brand, good feel but I cringe at the prices. What can I say, I'm poor :p

PS: Bryd line is good for me cause I can get a taste of Spyderco for less money!

I think that the pivot screw is a T9 not a T10.
A lot of people here like the Husky brand Torx driver that is available at Home Depot.

So a Husky T9 or T10.

Thanks!

Im not gonna tighten the screws up extra tight just enough to reduce the play.

I checked and I tried it with 2 of my T10 drivers and it is a tight fit. Whatever the size I'll advise for people to get both T9 and T10 torx drivers as many folders have these sized screws.

Best to fiddle around until the there is no wiggle but too tight and it won't open fast enough when you need it.

Another thing, choose the correct torx driver size. A torx driver one size smaller than a proper size can still twist the screws but it results in wear and tear much much faster. Have a range of torx screw sizes available and try out all the sizes. Choose one which does fit inside firmly with no significant 'wiggle'. Another thing, do not over twist the driver, a firm resistance is good enough. If you want to screw tightly cause you wanna avoid loosening, better for screw and driver for you to buy some loctite.

PS: Choose drivers with good quality ends. Some POS china stuff are made with non-hardened steel as the tips and it wears out too fast. Especially for the critical small drivers like T6.
