just was wondering what types of oil do you all use to oil your blades? is there an oil that can be used other than gun oil ect? i mean what if the knife is used daily like for hunting and you prefer not to use gun oil ect cause you do not want your sheath saturated with disstilated oils. i hesitate on asking this next question because it may turn out to be a stupid question but here it goes does cooking oil work similar to other oils as far as keeping the blade oiled properly, you know like vegetable oil ect?

I use light mineral oil, japanese style with a hint of clove oil so it smells nice. Organic oils will oxidize and go rancid on you.

I use Renaissance wax or a light wipe down with WD40. Ren wax is much cleaner and has very little scent.

I use REM Oil. (Remington gun oil.) Comes in a green spray can at Wal-Mart.

For long storage, I use ren wax.

I have used OLD ENGLISH oil from the market for awhile now. I learned that from a famous maker years ago. Try it, it works and is cheap!

Good info. For the Ren wax users, how clean does a previously oiled knife have to be before Ren wax treatment? Is residual oil a problem? If so, how to clean. Thanks again for all the info,

Just wipe the blade down with some acetone before applying any wax. I use gun oil (Rem oil, Break Free, Gunslick Ultra Lube... anything) on my knives; for long term storage, I use white lithium grease.

camillia oil is a plant extract and will not go rancid you can get it plain or with clove scent. I get mine from blade gallery.
