ok so here it is. i want a knife in vg-10. i have heard nothing but great things about it. but...i want it in a folder. sadly i havent seen that many folders with vg-10. ok here are the requirements. it cant be a linear lock. i cant stand them...im always afraid theyll fail thus i dont have a lahar. and it needs to be semi large, around the size of my griptilian or my kershaw storm. and finally, no plastic handles if poissible. i dont mind frn but if given the choice...and yeah. try to keep it under 80 bucks if we can guys. thanks all:D and try to give other than spyderco knives, im not a big fan of em..and this edit was added after the first few posts.

Have a look at the Spyderco Caly 3. It's a bit over $80, but I believe it would be money well spent for your needs.

Koot

Don't remember the models, but SOG also has a couple of VG10 blades and A G Russell does VG10 on some of his knives, IIRC.

I would certainly second the Caly 3, though, as a prime exmaple of what you can do with VG10. You should be able to find one for around $95-99 online.

ya i looked at spyderco, but sadly the shape doesnt do it for me. and the caly 3, i dunno, jsut not what i like looking for. anything other than spyderco?

Other than Spyderco? Al Mar and Fallkniven and Seki-Cut are three that come to mind. But the quest for VG-10 should be a good reason to check out Spyderco. After your first, all Spydercos suddenly become much more attractive.

SOG & Spyderco use a lot of VG-10.Most knives from Seki,Japan use VG-10 also.

ok well maybe ill try a cally 3. i mean if worst comes to worst, then i am sure i could sell it here ont he forums no problem. and then if i do like it after all then i got me a nicve new knife. maybe ill try it out. so what do yall think of falknivens framelocks. they use vg-10 and 3g. do you think they would be worth the extra money over spydercos?

The SOG Vulcan would be a good choice although it is about $20 higher than what you asked for. It is a full size folder with a 3.5" blade. There is a mini Vulcan with a 3.0" blade and it is about $10 over your limit. Both work off the Arc-Lock which is a variation of the BM Axis Lock. It does have Zytel handles, but a steel liners also so it should be plenty strong without going overboard. Either one would make a great knife!!

Might I ask which Spyderco models you looked at?

And did you look at the Native III? This is a Spyderco for those who do not like Spydercos. It has a blade of VG10 and is a lockback. It is one of my favorite knives.

You could also look at Fallkniven knives, although they are probably out of your price range.

To my knowledge, all VG10 blades are made in Japan. So you could focus on that.

knarfeng, i already have an s30v native. and it is ok but the frn just feels flimsy compared to say my griptilian. and the lockback flexes when i use it on harder materials. this knife wont be just a cardboard cutter. it will be in the woods with me too. as for money, it isnt that i cant afford it, i was jsut looking for cheaper alternatives. if a nice flakniven is my only choice then who am i to argue:D my bank account can afford it, i am just a cheapo lol how i e ver bought my alias i have no idea. and i have looked at the vulcan but it is too thick for me. me=thinner knives

The FRN on the Native is unlinered. Pretty much every VG-10 Spyderco has full skeletonized liners. The slight vertical play on lockbacks is normal and does not affect strength at all.

Carrot, the Native III is VG10. and it has no liners.

The FRN on the Native III is thicker than that on the Native. Howsoever, Good choice! You will certainly be happy with the Fallkniven!

Check them out in real life, if you haven't already. You might change your mind if you've only been looking at pictures online.

I suggest the Endura or Delica. VG-10 is a great steel.
