What Video Game Platform to buy?

X-Box is kinda cool because you can burn CD's onto the hard drive. And yes, Halo is a very fun game.

Go with the PS2 it has more software than the other platforms. As the PS1 proved- graphics don't mean diddly if you don't have good games, an example: the Dreamcast with all it's power couldn't compete with the Playstation, now it's dead, hell they don't even make games for it anymore.

I only have a PSX, with a mod chip, and about 70 games!

For those who don't know what a mod chip is, it is a chip that you either install or plugin that makes it able to play burned games.

I got mine from www.consolesource.com they have ALOT to choose from, for alot of systems. There easy to install. I recomend it, saves alot of money.

I own a PS2, but a quick word of advice: DON'T SMOKE AROUND IT! Besides being a nasty habit, I destroyed my machine, because the intake fan on the front sucked the smoke right into all the fragile parts inside. What's more, I tried cleaning it myself when it stopped working, since the warranty had expired, and now I can't even PAY Sony to fix the darn thing, because if you break the seal, they assume you tried to modify it.
If you're not an avid gamer, pick up a Dreamcast. since it's discontinued, machines and used games are very cheap, and there are some great titles (Shenmue, Berserk:Guts' Rage, Headhunter). Also, there's little to no copy protection, so you can download games right off the net and burn them to cds.

You need either a mod chip, or a boot disc like Utopia.

Actually, I've got a half-dozen burned DC games, no chip, but I do need a boot disc for headhunter, because it's a european game. It's just kinda tricky, you need to use the right burning programs (I don't know how, I get a friend to do it for me). I've even got a few hundred NES games on 3 discs (called Nester) for the Dreamcast that bring back lotsa memories of being a dorky little kid, instead of a dorky young adult.

Tekken Tag Tournament is the best PS2 game I've come across. :D (Tekken 4 is good too but you need a mod chip to play it, since it hasn't been released in USA yet)

The new James Bond one is quite fun too, especially with 4 people.

Buy a PC. The good games get ported and are vastly updated for PC play. Many games are made for the PC as well as the boxes plus all the games that are PC only. Much more versatile device too.

phatch - I agree with you that there are a lot of good PC games, only problem is a PC is 10x more expensive.

I have Xbox and I love it,

A friend of mine just went to Europe for 6 weeks and I traded my big knapsack for his Playstation 2. I'll get to playing it and make a direct comparison for you.

I have a pretty good computer right now, AMD 1600+ with a decent vid card but I find that PC games are usually "high maintenance". You have to install the game, make sure you have the space, a fast enough processor and vid card, then download any patches and configure the game. Sometimes its nice to just come home from work, throw a disk in the Xbox and blow stuff up.
But on the other hand games like the Warcraft 3, Command and Conquer, Dungeon Seige will never be better on a console machine than on a PC, AND if you want to play Unreal Tournament or Quake 2 against real people over the internet then a console can't touch a PC.

If only I had some more time!!!!

A good friend of mine has a PS2, X-Box, GameCube, PS1, Nintendo, SuperNintendo, everything, and if there's anything to learn, its buy the system that has the games you want. period. He also has all of these hooked up to a projector that he sets to cover an entire garage door with a white sheet tacked on it. So if you have the dough invest in a projector for about a thousand or so, yes the better ones start at a few grand up through a few hundred grand but there are some good deals out there. You want to blow your socks off all you need is a projector and surround sound, hell you could even be playing Mario.

Ooo, and a plug for GameCube's Monkeyball, crazy...and I'm addicted to it's pool game, smooth jazz music going and good pool yeah that's what its about.

As I said above I have temporarily inherited a PS2 for a couple of weeks and have been playing Metal Gear Solid 2. It is totally awesome!! I would rank in just below Halo due to my affection for first person shooters.

I think i'm going to rent Grand Theft Auto which is supposed to be the bomb.

I'm also going to visit my brother on his cruise ship and we're making a stop in Normandy. I'm going to rent Medal of Honor for PS2 since the first level is supposed to be a "Saving Private Ryan" scene on Omaha beach.

I might have to drop out of school, just so I can get all this playing done with.

Much luv
