What was the knife that got you started?

Picked up a Gerber LST thinking that was enough for me along with the Wenger SAK Classic. The Geber was a POS, so upped it to a Spydie Calypso Jr Grey

It's been too many years ago and I can't remember what knife got me started. I've had so many that I've lost track. I always had an penknife of some kind in my pocket since I was able to walk. All my family has had a pocket knife since I can remember. So I had to have one too. They were probably cheaply made Barlows.

Yeah, You never forget your first!!!
Like several other over the hill guys, I got a shiney blue Cub scout knife at about 8 or nine and have had a edc ever since. My early user was a small three bladed stockman, a shreade or uncle henry maybe. Used that one til colllege and then switched to the " how many do you own" thread.

I had a POS sheath knife I bought from a hardware store in the sixth grade. We used to hunt and fish together in the small town I grew up in. I soon found the mild steel knife NEVER held an edge, rusted, bent, and eventually broke.

I found a WWII German bayonet in the rafters of my Grandfather's barn complete with sheath. I carried it for several years and discovered what a quality steel, big blade could do. I used it for everything from a machete to a hunting knife to a digging tool, to splitting wood.

Later a USAF Pilot's knife replaced that bayonet for hiking and hunting. It was simply more compact and easy to carry. But that wonderful example of blued steel German craftsmanship was the knife that started it all.

I never really gave much thought to owning a really nice knife , always had a knife, usually a Buck 110 or a Buck Crosslock....it was American Handgunner that got me interested , back when Ichiro was putting an Elishewitz in picts with the 1911's...

I got to searching the WWW & I found BF and met Gary Graley....within a year I had bought a couple Sebenzas , a WH T10 B&T Lancet and a Shinosky folder...all from him.
