What was your first “expensive” knife?

An Ithace "Track" skinner my parents bought me for the grand tune of $75 in 1982 or so. Big, short, wide bladed skinner, and I proceeded to tryk to sharpent it to about 30 degrees (total), obviously not a good choice. And, I sharpened it by hand, so there won't be a picutre here as I'm embarrassed by my ignorance. The blade is so wide and short that it's useless for anything but skinning, but one day I'll set up my Spyderco Tri-"Angle sharpener fo 40 degrees and ry to reclaim the knife. Also has a ton of verdigree on the sheath, as it has a brass bolster. That job's going to take a lot of time. but it's still a decent blade.

I carried a Chive in 2001 - 2002 which I thought was a top notch knife until I went to a party and someone needed it to cut what I think was a "I'm old enough to drink" bracelet off which then ended up causing a knife show. Some gangster looking guy pulled out a knife I had never seen and handed it to me. The second I felt it I knew there was a whole other level to pocket knives. I didn't know it at the time but It was a Benchmade / Emerson collaboration CQC7 with a black blade. I pulled out a $100 dollar bill that I was I was gonna use to fill my nitrous bottle because I just got paid and offered it to him for the knife which he gladly excitedly took explaining that his ex girlfriend got it of him for his birthday a few months ago. I put it in my pocket hung out for bit longer and then eagerly left party early, went home so I could look, play, and admire it. I have been a Benchmade/nice knife fan ever sense.

Depends on what expensive is. In the 70's ithought a Gerber was expensive, but the 1st I knew I was going out of my comfort zone was a small classic MM wood inlay Sebenza I ordered from CRK. I must have read every CRK thread on here and Knife Forum, multiple times, before pulling the trigger. How times have changed.
That research led me to BF.
