What was your first fixed blade knife?

Do machetes count? If so, it was a Meyerco sawback with a D handle and 420J2 steel, made in China, of course. I still have it, still use it, and I have used it more than any other blade I own. I sharpened it last week. I used to free-hand it, but now I've taken to using the Ken Onion, which is quite a bit faster. The steel is not held in high regard around BF, but when I hit a rock (which I do more often than I should), it just rolls a little and is easily fixed.

Nowadays, I have bursitis in my shoulder, so I can't take a big swing with it anymore, but it still works fine for huge weeds and small trees (like up to to an inch in diameter).

I was maybe 10 years old when I bought an LF&C knife at a surplus store for $1. It had an aluminum handle cast to the blade and I think would have been part of a mess kit. I had to keep it hidden from my parents who didn't approve of such things, or much of anything else I did, for that matter.

I'm sure my first fixed blade was unmemorable. I remember buying a Gerber B&T in the '60s and used it for years. Then came some fillet knives, then in 1984 a set of Gerber Loveless Guardians (still have). Then in 1988 things got serious and I bought my first custom from maker Sam Cox, I still have it. Slippery slope from there.

I was about 10 or so when my grandma bought me one of those garbage boot knives from a local junk store. It's the kind made in Pakistan with the brass guard and pomel and oval wood handle.

Still, I used that thing all over the place. It was butter knife dull in no time, but I still made it work. I ended up dropping it in the deep end of a creek I used to explore in the summer. I'm guessing what's left of it is still lost among the rocks these 30 some odd years later.

Had two fixed during college. in the mid 70s A Gerber Guardian boot knife and a Navy Mk3. Got both stolen. lol
Got into Cold Steel in the 80s.

My first was a Buck 119 back in 1991. I loved it. However , I let my idiot cousin borrow it in 2004 and I never saw it again. My fault. But I really enjoined that knife while I had it.
I wonder and may not be worth it, ask him what happened to it.

Mine were a pair of Mora classic carbon models made by Frost's. I bought them at a hardware store in Sweden when I was 18 or so. I still have and use them. The 4 inch blade lives in my work tools. The smaller one stays on the mantel. I have dozens of Moras now, but still use the trusty Classic a bit.
