My first knife was a gift from my parents on my birthday...I believe I was about 10-12 years old. They made me do a treasure hunt to find it :p. Anyways, it's a Victorinox SAK, check it out.

What was your first knife, and how did you get it?

I believe my first pocket knife was colored blue, a scout pattern, with a triangular shield with a wolf head in it, and was associated with my achieving wolf or bear status in the cub scouts, in about 1954. Long, long gone.

No way....I have my dad's old knife and it's blue in color, has a triangular sheild with a wolf head on it and it was his cub scouts knife. How bout that, I'll post a picture of it so you can see if its the same thing as yours.

My first would be from about 1958 or so...A small pen knife with scales that looked quite a bit like the ivory micarta we see here on the forum of late. Unfortunately I no longer have that knife but its memory lives on.

I thought I had one just like Dad's when I was allowed to buy my own , but it was not so. He had a yellow handled stockman by Keen Kutter, alas mine was by Queen.

My very first knife was a old Imperial Barlow, one of those that had the shell handles and 3 month construction. After a few months, the handles fell off, and the blade was a bit wobbly. But it was an experiment on my grandads part. He said if I didn't lose it, cut my finger off, or suffer any other disasters, I'd get a better one from my dad.

The next Christmas, my dad gave me a brand new Camillus scout knife. I carried that scout knife from age 12 to age 20, when I joined the army. I left it home as I didn't want to get it stolen in an army barracks. My youngest son Matt, a county police officer, carries it now and then. In time it will go to my grandson.

Wow, that knife has seen some heavy use. 8 years is a long time to carry one knife without getting bored :D.

I was with my family in Barbados when I was 8 and my dad told me to pick out at Victorinox SAK at the duty free shop. I picked the biggest one they had (saw blades, magnifying glass and a bunch of stuff I would never need). I accidentally dropped it overboard in lake the same year.

So it seems not many people still have their first knife, that's too bad. I hope to have mine for a long, long time.

My first was ~ 1960. It was an old equal end jack that I adopted from the tool drawer. It wasn't new by a long shot. It also is long gone.

I can't remember exactly what my first knife was.. probably the simple fixed blade "scout puukko" with hand guard. Or possibly a small "penny knife" folder.

Alas, long since lost track of them too.

I guess for me, my first knife was actually a pair of knives. It was a 35OT and an 5OT(the stainless steel lockback). I still have the 34OT though it is retired and the lockback was sold since I never used it and wanted it to go to a good home.

How's the 340T lookin' these days?

Scout/utility, 4 blade style with black, jigged, composite scales. I don't know where it ended up. Probably with my original Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Roger Maris, Hank Aaron, etc...baseball cards.

Here's my first one. An Ulster USA boy scout knife from around 1965 (5th grade for me).

Those scratches across the main spearpoint are from scraping old grips off of golf clubs--I do a little custom club making for myself and friends. Geeessh, I got a lotta bad habits!

My first was a single blade, bone handled Queen barlow given me by my grandfather in 1952 when I was 8. Still have that knife (put away in my "treasure box"). Have carried a knife of some type every day of my life since then (except twice when on jury duty). That's been a long, long time. The first knife I bought with my own money was an Iisakki Jarvenpaa horsehead puukko with a green galalite handle (still have that one also - along with about 300 other Nordic/Finnish knives).

Now if you gave a kid of 8 a knife, you'd be charged with child endangerment and probably get locked up. Times have sure changed. When I was in elementary school, our supplies included a pen knife to sharpen pencils. Now knives aren't even allowed in school. Sad times.

We're about the same age and that looks like my first knife, except for the make. :)

That knife is lookin' good to be around 45 years old .

ya'll will forgive me for posting this pict again:) This is it the one that started this all back in '83-84... Was my grandads 1970's Camillus #26 2 bladed hunter and a sheath a family friend made for it back then...
Aside from a little bladeplay on the main and the dented bolsters and faded blade etch (picts dont show much of the character:D), she's perfect, pretty darn huge too:eek:
and its amazing i still have it:thumbup:
thanks
