and have you stuck with it?

Mine was a trapper. I haven't stuck with this pattern since I started on slipjoints a year ago, but I always go back to them. Probably because that's what started me off. My first was a Case Large Trapper with rosewood scales which is stuck in some box only God knows where or was lost in my last move. I am currently trying to find a replacement. Feel free to post pics of your first.

When I was a kid I had so many knives, lots of cheapy truck stop knives my dad would bring home from his runs. The best I can remember was a Vic of some sorts and a schrade linerlock or lockback that had a triangular plastic thumbstud. Man I loved that shrade. I had it for 3-4 years and lost it fishing at canal around my grandma's house. I wish I could find one local so I can get it for one of my boys or my god son.

I don't remember

I was too young to have clear memories...I vaguely remember a "small" knife in MOP; maybe a pen knife. Knew nothin' about knife patterns at that time. I was already a knife nut, though, as I used this knife to whittle countless wood "knives" from branches :D

It's funny. The stockman was my first pattern. Then I got to buying all different kinds of patterns to test the waters. But I still think I like the stockman the best. Can't believe I got it right the first time!

My first was a scout knife. My dad bought it for me when I started in the Cub Scouts. I think I was 7. The next pattern was a Barlow. I wish I still had both of them. Somewhere along the past 50 years or so they got misplaced.

My first pattern was a stockman. My dad gave me my first knife when I was about 11. It was a Buck 303 cadet stockman. Great knife though I broke the clip blade digging out dirt clods. :( It was shortly replaced by an Old Timer stockman.

I still love the stockman pattern and the cattleman and this is primarily what my collection consists of. I love having three blades but especially the sheepsfoot blade.

My first pattern was also a stockman. yellow handled Queen Steel just like Dad carried then whenI bought it found out Dad's was a Keen Kutter.

I am glad you asked this question. I have been trying to remember that for years!
I mean I knew it was a 2 blade pen/jack knife with fake MOP handles, but I couldn't remember the brand until just now. It just came to me when I read this that it said "Imperial" on the main blade, and had a crown for a sheild.
Not only was it my first slipjoint, it was my first knife period. I bought it when I was 9 or 10 while on vacation in upstate Michigan at a Ben Franklin store. Those were five & dimes back then (they call them dollar stores now for all you youngsters out there) and I couldn't have had more than a dollar or two to my name at that age, so it had to be a real cheapo. This was in either 1977 or 78 and I kept that knife for a few years and lost it. I wish I could post a picture of it.

I found a picture online of what I think it was:

Anyone know where I can get one of these?

Scout, I loved that knife! Wish I could remember the maker. The best part was the fact my parents trusted me with it.

I see them crop up on eBay from time to time.

My first was a Tuxedo Pen knife that I still have, but I seldom carry one. My second was a two blade jack, similar to what Case calls the Texas Jack. I carry one of those most of the time. I carry a stockman more than anything else.

My first slippie was a Laguiole, I had only owned modern folders prior to that. I still have it, but it only sees limited duty as a picnic knife. My slipjoint of choice now is the stockman. I was always drawn to the stockman, and no other pattern piques my interest more.

My first pattern that was actually bought for me to carry, was I believe a Schrade pen knife, there was also a Schrade stockman similar to a 34OT that I had around the same time, I think the pen was first though. I have pretty much stuck to the two blade small patterns and I also like stockman as well.

The first knife I bought was a case muskrat. That was 40 years ago and its on my desk right now.

My first was a two bladed jack with round bolsters. It might have been a Imperial. Thin carbon steel blades that got s h a r p. I carried it for a year or two then my Grandad gave me a Case 3318. I still carry a 3318 some.

I can't remember back that far. But I think I remember my dad giving me a knife. And since he was a Old Timer fan I am pretty sure it was one of them. I think I left it out in the rain and it got lost. I did not take good care of things when I was younger. I do better now. I now have his Old Timer 80T Stockman now that he is gone home. A lot of memories in that old knife.

My first knife was an old equal end design. Pen blade and clip. Non-stainless. I'm pretty sure that the two blades opened from opposite ends of the knife, but I'm not positive. It also seems that the scales were a black composition material that had ridges in it rather than jigging. It must have dated from the 30's or 40's. It was way old in the late 50's when I adopted it from the tool drawer. (Dad said I could.)

Buck stockman I traded a cheapo switchblade for on the schoolbus in 6th grade. If you count cheapo SAK knockoff's, then a Red Ryder from SMKW.

It was very similar to the slimline Imperial although it had a gold and black alternating striped handle. Somehow as I remember back I don't believe the handle was celluloid, this would have been the mid 60's
