What was your first victorinox ?

I’m really enjoying reading the stories in this thread but I have to ask, do you remember why the number was $11? That seems like such a strange amount of money. Why not $10? Why not $15? I’m curious!

That’s funny right? It’s funny to me that I remember silly little things like that for so long…
So, my friend wanted something like $20 as he looked into what they cost at the time and it was a significant cost and so I think he thought he would get an easy $20 and that I would easily agree with him but, $20 was like $50 today and I only could come up with $11 bucks that particular day and he said alright you can have it lol! We both made about $3.10 an hour back then and literally got checks for about $90-$95 bi-weekly…this was probably ‘82 or ‘83-ish in Great Falls, Mt., where there just weren’t a lot of jobs for kids there and if you got a job, you hung on to it! 👍

My uncle gave me a knockoff in the 90’s and while it was not the real thing and of poor quality the essence of SAK style tool etched to my mind. I had my knife hobby start in the 2000’s and edgy Cold Steel knives were more interesting for young adult. Around 2008 I got my first real SAK with my tax return and it was the SwissChamp. I still have it and it has survived many of the purges.

My first was a Classic waaaay back when. I needed a roach clip. While I no longer have a need for that particular function, I've learned the tweezers can be useful for other things. I've been carrying a small SAK for over 50 years now.

Victorinox Waiter for me.

A decade ago i was looking for something to help undo the knots in my dogs leash, she would pull them so tight i couldn’t undo them without help. The nail hook on my Leatherman Micra helped some, and on chance i saw a comment in a review that a corkscrew was a great knot detangler. The Waiter was the cheapest way to try that, and a decade later it’s still a great SAK that hides in your pocket until you need it.
