What was your "gateway" knife?

The one that really pushed me over the edge into the madness I experience today was a Benchmade CQC-7.

I found a USA made Spyderco Meerkat in 440C at an antique store for 6 dollars when I first moed to Colorado. I've been chasing the dragon ever since.

A lmbel (Brazil) M3 like trench knife, back in 1985. Sold to my best friend in 1998. Wish I still had it.

I always liked knives. I had few of them through course of my life. The first knife, which I started to EDC was a SAK traveler. I carried for about 8 years. Than one day in a Target I went to clearance section and saw this unknown Gerber for $8. It was CE, this is all I can remember. I never bought it, didn't want to spend $8:rolleyes:. I came next day to get it, but they were gone. I searched the net and bought X-Frame, than another Gerber. Than I decided to do research on blade steels and found Blade forum. After that things went done the hill.
If I spent $8 back than, may be it would save me $$$$. ;)

I think that the first knives I remember are my Grandads Buck 307 and my Uncle Blackies Buck 112. I can remember being fascinated with them and always wanting to hold them, watching intently when they were being used.
Once I got a little older I got a Buck of my own, a finger grooved 110. It and a Case 3318 stockman were the two that really pushed me over the edge. Sadly I don't have either of the originals but have replaced them both with newer versions of the old faithfuls.

trapper my oldman gave me 20 some years ago. I still carry it on and off, bit I prefer fixed blades.

My first knife was a Benchmade 530. I was actually really pleased and EDCed it for about a year before stumbling across a small sebenza for cheap...and I've been hooked ever since. I kept trying new things to see if it could compete with the sebenza, but never found anything that was quite a good, so I kept going back. Now I have a handful of knives and many of them are sebenzas...I do like other designs though to change things up, especially knives with the new stuff, bearings, steel, etc. I don't know if I'd have gotten more into knives if it wasn't for the sebenza..might still be carrying that 530 today...

Buck Vantage Pro.

Or well, technically the Boker Magnum Lady. I contacted Boker and managed to send that knife back that day. I wouldn't pay $10 for what I received. I then browsed this forum because I wanted to find a good solid knife, and decided I wanted a knife in S30v, and the Vantage Pro was about 45 rather than over 100.
Might have something to do with my love for drop points.

Gateway knife.... tiny Imperial slipjoint in 2nd grade ($0.50). I have ALWAYS liked knives, guns, fishing equipment, camping stuff and so forth. Bass Pro is like a candy store for me.

Truthfully, exposure to my brother in law resulted in my being willing to spend larger money on knives and being comfortable owning many knives that I didn't even use or seldom used.

Brown Spyderco Delica FFG, I squirmed when a (I am to hot to have to ask!) girl grabbed my not yet used grail Delica out of my pocket to pop open her stupid beer...Now (4 years later) I be the one poppin bottles..... with Hinderers, Busses and bic lighters

My addiction started I think was 7 years ago, thanks to my brother(Who is also on this forum)
It all started with a My First Victorinox, with a round tip. I've got it from my brother for my 8th birthday I think.
Now, 7 years later, I'm 13 Victorinox knife and a Delica 4 further.
