What watch do you wear?

Seiko Alpinist arrived today from Japan. I think I'll keep her..

Best thing about it is the Seagull ST2505 movement: hand winds and hacks, reasonably accurate after one day (+30 seconds) and absolutely silent. The fly-back date is not readable unless you're wearing a loupe, but it balances the power reserve.

Seagull M172s is prettier but it costs more.

Today an Omega WWW (Watch, Wrist, Waterproof) UK World War Two military issue w/ c.30T2 movement from Omega's famous 30mm family of hand wind movements. Circa 1944/1945.

It's a workhorse, great for the outdoors. The crown is on the other side so it doesn't dig in on your wrist. The self-powered tritium will glow for up to 25 years. It has a shock-resistant movement, and sapphire crystal. This is much better than a standard Luminox. Highly recommend it. Made out of a carbon case.

I've been wearing this same Protrek for a couple of years now. I really like the watch but I've always hated the band so I thought I would try a NATO strap or whatever it's called. It's like a completely different watch now, much lighter and much more comfortable.

I wear an Apple watch.

Same here. Will have to see how things go long-term but I haven't worn any of my mechanicals in the past nine or so months that I've had it. It will be interesting to see what the next revision brings.

I have been wearing mine since July, and have sold off all but 1 watch, the one my Mom gave me as a gift, when I was driving to Alaska to go work for 3 months.

Multi-year calendar, 2015 through 2056

The crown at 2 o'clock rotates the year/day under-dial. Align the year and month to set the calendar. Leap years (like 2016) are printed white on black. January and February are duplicated, black on white and white on black: the white on black months are used to set January and February in leap years. The calendar in the photograph is set for May 2016.

This is an update of the original Orient from 1960. They were popular novelty watches. Wittnauer sold rebranded Orients in the USA. There were lots of copies, notably Raketa and Luch.

In 1983, Orient modified their original design.

The windows for the under-dial moved inboard of the calendars, and the crown at 2 o'clock was replaced by a button you can't see in my photograph. One drawback of the original design is that the 2 o'clock crown does not lock, and it is easy to bump it with the back of your hand and move the calendar. Orient replaced that crown with a button you can't see in my photo. Orient used a 2 o'clock button to set the day on its Mako and TriStar watches, so that was an easy substitution. Once set, the calendar would stay set, but setting it became a tedious chore. LOTS of button pushing and it was one way only: go past where you want and you have to go all the way around to get back. IMO the first pattern was superior, and that was what everyone imitated.
