This is a 75th anniversary double commemorative. In 1942, Stalin panicked and moved everything east that could be moved, including the No. 1 Moscow Watch Factory which went to Chistopol in Tartarstan. In 1943, the relocated factory got its first contract for the K-43 army watch. Hence, no Vostok on the dial: that name dates from the Soviet space program. The commemorative is quite similar to the original, but not identical for obvious reasons. And I believe the reissue's design was the work of the Russian watches forum of an excellent Spanish web site, hablemosderelojes.com. All honor to creators and re-creators!

This is a Soviet K-43 army watch with radioluminescent paint containing 226Ra on its hour and minute hands. Due to the breakdown of the crystal structure of zinc sulfide, old radium dials and hands may stop producing light while remaining radioactive as hell. Dose rates near the face have been measured in excess of 10uSv/hr, which would deliver a dose equivalent to one day's background exposure in 20 minutes. Yeah radium!

Haven'y posted in this thread in a while, good to see it's still going strong. The Planet Ocean has still been my everyday watch for a while now, though I recently picked up an Explorer II that's getting alot of use. I plan to wear it as a true field watch and never baby it.

Thank you!

The BLNR is my daily driver, followed by the GS as it's the latest addition and my Navi 01.

I really like that GS! Is it currently made?
Would look sweet on rubber as well.

I really like one of their other GMT offerings that come on leather.

Super classy watches and if anybody ever asked you can just say “this thing? It’s just a seiko”

(Not that anything is wrong with their more affordable watches, quite the contrary)
