Victorinox gets really fired up when it comes to turning new ideas into reality. And this is particularly true of the new pocket tool, which really does have fire in it!
A shiny silver gas lighter has been built into the pocket knife between the blades and the tools. There are times when you won’t want to be without this new tool – camping, barbecueing, hiking or DIY, for example. And, as with all multitools, the SwissFlame’s range of uses is more or less unlimited.

How does the pocket lighter work?
The blue laser flame is activated using the handy trigger mechanism on the top of the pocket knife. The heat is very concentrated and kindling is swift.
The ignition mechanism is based on tried-and-tested piezo technology. The tank needs to be filled with premium-grade butane gas to ensure that the lighter works properly. The fuel level can be checked through the viewing window in the tank.
There is one limitation to bear in mind: Lighters with the preferred turbo laser flame and piezo technology may not operate properly at altitudes greater than approx. 1500 m above sea level.

The 'SwissFlame” offers a further 17 useful functions:
Large and small blades, corkscrew, tin-opener with small screwdriver (also suitable for Phillips 1–2), cap opener with 6 mm screwdriver, wire stripper, reamer, punch, key ring, tweezers, toothpick, scissors, multi-purpose hook, ballpoint pen, pin (stainless steel) and mini-screwdriver.
Weight: 141g

Haha, that's pretty funny. I've always thought a better attachment would be a little piece that would clamp hold a standard scout-type firesteel blank, that could fold in and out like a tool. Hold is securely, but replaceable when it wore out.

I agree,it is alittle to much . neat for a real gadget person or a SAK freak/Collector but not my style...I just though it was funny & needed to be shared..

I really don't like the new translucent scales.
Other than that, I like it.

I love it..but I do love my Swiss knives..I love the challenge of lighting a fire as much as the next guy..but if you were in damp conditions..that thing could be a life saver. And it has a saw on it..If it had aluminum scales..I would buy one right away. Gene

Have others here had a good experience with piezo technology? The one on my Jetboil has crapped out after less than 50 clicks or so :grumpy:

I love it. Any time I can add another source for fire along with other useful tools, I will jump on it. I have dozens and dozens of Vic knives I can say I have never been disappointed or thought that I got less than what I paid for. I can't say that about to many things. Thanks Tony.

I think that has less to do w/ piezo tech than Jetboil tech. My buddies quit the same way, and then his replacement quit. It seems like they may have a new design out though...I think I heard that.

There is a post on the multi-tool forum about designing your fantasy SAK. Amazingly, I suggested the following:

"Oh yeah, add an arrow puller, a fletching jig and a butane torch so I can use it to build and pull arrows. (I really am dreaming here!)"

Who do I speak to at SAK to collect royalty? I promise to share it with everyone. And to think, it all started right here.

I tried to find one on the web to check the price. It seem that there is some US restrictions on the SwissFlame and it is not, and probably will not be available in the US. :grumpy:. Kinda sucks.

EDIT: Looks as though its because the lighter does not have a safety/child proof feature.

Think of the children! They can have a sharp knife, but not a butane lighter! Ha ha ha ha ha

Idiots. Put all the bureaucrats in a padded cell to keep them comfortable and feeling right at home.

You guys are crazy, that is wonderful. Add on a LED flashlight, and you have the greatest piece of kit ever created, with the holy trinity of knives, flashlights, and fire all in one piece.

I got a little fascinated with this thing, and did some research as well. The first mentions I find of it are actually from 5-6 years ago, and nothing recent. I do not think they make it anymore. :(

After posting ,I did research as well and looks to be a 2003 model available in Australia and abroad but not US & Canada ???? Dang I thought it was something New !

I get to pull out a knife everytime I light a ciggarette! I'm sold!!!!!!!
