What will they think of next !

Just don't accidentally hit the ignition button while using the corkscrew to open a bottle of anything with a high alcohol content.

I'm suprised Victorinox haven't got one out with a removable Ferrocerium rod by now, they seemed to have covered everything else !

Okay, I'll admit that the gadget freak in me thinks that it's neat, however . . .

the more practical part of me prefers having essential tools to be separate. imagine losing your knife and fire starter all at once!

Well its better than a USB memory stick! Firewire this babycakes!

Been around here in NZ for a few years. My younger son wants one but hasn't articulated the reasons adequately yet!
It's quite bulky in the hand/pocket.

I tried to get one of these several years back - even went so far as to have one of my friends during an overseas trip ship one back. The concierge in a high end hotel searched for days and couldn't locate one.

I understand that Vic had QA/QC problems with the lighter - coupled with the fact that they weren't being shipped to the US.

EDIT: Looks as though its because the lighter does not have a safety/child proof feature.

It's funny, the last few bbq lighters I bought are a pain in the butt to operate because of the redundant childproofing. Basically, the lighters have a safety, and another safety to operate the first safety.

After posting ,I did research as well and looks to be a 2003 model available in Australia and abroad but not US & Canada ???? Dang I thought it was something New !
For the first time I'm happy about 1 thing not being screwed up by the politicians down here!

It's about 130AUD though :(.

The SwissFlame models were discontinued shortly after their introduction. The lighter was frequently DOA, and even when it worked in the beginning, it broke very quickly. Given Victorinox' lifetime warranty, this model quickly became a major liability and, was dumped. They come up on eBay now and then, and the hardcore collectors pick them up as a rarity, but the $0.30 Bic lighter works much better...

There were three Vic models that were produced with the lighter. All are fairly sought after as collectibles. They included the SwissFlame (scissors) CampFlame (saw) and the XXLT (the big mamma jamma). I have 2 samples of each. The piezo works fine in all of them the problem is with the gas jet, it's a little "too precise." If I am not mistaken I believe Wenger is now producing a lighter (solo). I would not be surprised if the idea was reincarnated under the Wenger label.
