What Works for You???

What "works for me" can be seen below ... because of our laws I carry a UKPK with the head torch shown and a fire steel and a pencil sharpener for shavings and a small compass the most ... kept in a simple plastic bag which I shove in a jacket pocket or a rucksack pocket when out and about ... then for a belt knife I go for the top scandi in the pic ... it is a 5 inch blade with a supremely comfortable handle ... done in simple 01 tool steel it just works the best for me ( and that is after testing many 4-5 inch blades ) ... and finally "Busse" wise for me my favourite and long awaited ideal large knife is my NTTKZ ... Busse's or "Infi" work best for me in a chopping blade ... usually carried in my rucksack the NTTKZ is the best knife I have used todate for this function.
It is an awesome performer

However, for a long time I have been trying different knives just to educate myself as to "what works the best" ... so usually I am rotating knives and therefore don't really use just the one set up all the time ... it's more fun with "variety" :D

BATAC, carried in Mashed Cat, sharpened on a Norton diamond plate or an EZE-Lap M-Rod in the field. I've had a few of these, but this one is staying.

Man, you all are awesome :-). This is why I feel at home in the Busse forum. Great thread! Thanks everyone :-)

I actually have two. In the field, I carry the SH-E on my pack. Mostly, though, my SHBA gets the nod.

I do love those SH's! ;)

When are you gonna fess up and tell everyone that you have replaced that ugly SHE with a SHSH. :foot:

The SHSH & SHBA is the perfect combo. :D

Bigfattyt,

It was a CGFBM. Intentional mod : I wanted a large INFI Bowie with a strong tip.

The survivors after some major culling (RMD2LE is on the chopping block bc I cant bring myself to use it)

Looks like a cross between a freight train and a Bugatti.

What's that handle slab color/material?

Congratulations!

OK, OK. I confess. While the ergo still rides on my pack, her straight-handled sister has stolen my heart! :D

As far as carrying goes, my CGBATAC sees the most use. Living in a more urban area in a state which requires knives to be carried openly and where hardly anyone carries a knife (that I'm aware of), I don't carry Busse's on me that often, but the CGBATAC is a good knife to toss in the truck when I feel I might need something more than a folder. :)

In the winter months, this usually gets rotated out for a CGNMSFNO, HOFSHLE or CGFBM as a truck knife when foul weather is predicted.

Sadly, I run into a more severe problem of working at a place where "weapons" cannot come in so all of my fixed blades stay home so that I can be "safe" while at work.

As a newbie in the knife world I have only brought myself to make a user out of my Swamp Warden.

Will - I don't think you can beat a well done convex polished edge on a chopper :)

I was thinking, what else works because of all of the responses regarding not carrying a fixed blade. Well, lately for me it has been a real oldie. I keep it sharp with a diamond stone just as you MMIAM, but I follow that with a leather belt with black compound. It keeps it perfect, it will slice, push cut, shave...whatever.

I have found also that different things work with different steels, designs..etc..

All in a very compact, extremely well fitted and finished package. Its old and not popular at all but it works for me :)

I keep my beltsander and ABRASIVE belts for medium to large sized fixed blades, but the leather belt for all sizes. I wish I could carry my ASHLE everywhere, but as a few have stated, its a woods knife, travel bag, truck knife
