What would be the best knife under 30 dollars

Cold Steel Pocket Bushman will perform wonderfully for under $30.00.

Spend $20 and get a Cold Steel Recon 1 in blade shape of choice.. Great ergos, Tri-ad lock (super tough) and easy to keep sharp. It is MUCH tougher than the Byrd and Tenacious.. and I have all three. I would put the Recon 1 up against any heavy duty folder.. and pretty much all of those are over $100... more towards $150

If you really want a tank for less than $30, I second the suggestion for the CS Pocket Bushman. Solid knife with a great profile and a lock that will still function even if the spring busts. I've baronet mine before and it didn't complain.

Try a good Sodbuster or an Okapi. Both are very capable hard use folders and pretty much made for farm work.

Anything Sanrenmu but especially love my 763. I got it for $6.50 and it is a perfect edc for me. It has excellent grippy g-10, deeeeep tip up pocket clip, smooth axis lock, nice depth on belly of blade, bottle opener, large lanyard hole, jimping, excellent fit and finish, good sharp maintainable steel. I also love my SRM 710($7) , Kershaw chill(17), SOG flash 1(30), and tenacious(30). If you haven't owned a Sanrenmu give it a try, you'll be very impressed. It has the materials, fit and finish, and overall quality of a 40+ knife.

My logic in considering the RAT-1 folder as a top candidate under $30 is you get good heat treated AUS8 blade steel and the knife is made in Taiwan rather than China.

Those are value added elements in any knife under $30 IMHO. Plus the F&F and lock up on mine is astounding for the price point. The blade finish is stunning on my satin PE.

Thanks guys or girls for the input I am fine with a small fixed blade. I am taking in all the input and thank you.this knife community is great. Thanks!

I need a heavy duty knife that i can use at my ranch. It needs to be a tank. Folder though.

For regular farm work, I'd say general utility is the way to go. You could find an appropriate SAK in your target budget, but you might want to consider saving a bit more and go with a Leatherman tool. The pliers/wire-cutters are very useful for mending fences.

But you mentioned you needed a tank for the ranch. Not sure if this means you're looking for a more outdoorsy/camp type knife, but if so, I'd add another vote for the Ontario RAT 1 folder or a Ka-Bar Becker BK-14 fixed-blade (which would probably run you a little over budget.)

Good luck!

Buck 110 screams american farm work.
Recon 1 is arguably better, but not by much and it's not made in the good 'ol USA.
Neither is my Tenacious which has never let me down, but the steel is only mediocre.
Which one of these 3 would you think of handing down to the next generation?

I've had a rat 1 for about a year now and the thing is still going strong would be a great choice.
