What would be your multi bladed grail edc

Not sure it applies here but I've always had a soft spot for "hobo knives". I had one growing up that I used to love taking everywhere. Not sure how I did it but it fell apart on me. It was similar to the old Kamp King but had cuts on the sides for the fork and spoon. I've never seen the Case version for sale or I would own one. Or two.

I'm glad someone already brought up Victorinox, because the alox Cadet is pretty sweet, and the standard Rambler is great. What about an alox Rambler?

I'd love to see one! (As in, I'd love to see a new one. Apparently they had a limited run several years ago, and the secondary market for these is crazy.)

I've always liked these Case/Bose colabs. I could probably get along just fine if my only knife was this stockman.

Then there's the ever present Alox Pioneer. I wouldn't consider it a grail, but no matter what knife I carry, the Pioneer is in the other pocket. I forget it's even there until I need screwdriver, or a pry bar, bottle or can opener, awl/drill/screw starter.......

I’m lucky enough to already own my grail edc knife, this Kawamura lockback stockman. It’s surprisingly slim, the main blade opens easily with one hand, and it’s gorgeous.

I just got this Ryu WT, it is an equally good choice.

I have an LBS also! You right. The main blade opens so easy. I think I have the first 3 3/4” one he made.

what’s the closed length on that WT?

GEC should take the 66 stockmans, and fix those darn weak springs for the secondary blades. I have two, and the snap on the secondary blades is weak on both. Give it some more snap, and maybe upgrade to one of the newer stainless steels, and you'd have my idea of a perfect stockman.

Victorinox Trekker modified as follows:

•OHO non-serreted blade in carbon steel
•Add a layer by including package hook
•Add hoof pick from the Equestrian
•Add scissors
•Old style scales with insignia in metal inlay
•Blaze orange headed tweezers and toothpick
•Is there room for a ballpoint pen in the scales?
•Call it "The Stablemaster" 😁

Ten riding lessons/training sessions for anyone making this happen!

If we can just ask for anything, then I think my multi-blade grail would be a Great Eastern Cutlery #81 Abilene Stockman in Yellow Rose configuration with the following features:

- Clip main;
- Sheepfoot secondary;
- A relatively stout awl as the third blade (or whatever you call a punch with the little hole used for stitching leather);
- Horsecut jigging on the yellow bone scales;
- Match strike pull on the main blade;
- All blades made from AEB-L at 63 RC;
- Sunken tangs, like on Robeson's pocketeze knives; and
- Pull strength at 7/10 on the main blade and 5-6 on the secondary and tertiary blades.

The WT is about 90-92mm or 3 5/8”. Supposedly the same as the Cattle knife but it feels a couple mm shorter.

My LBS is the typical 104mm, 4 1/8”

Are you saying he made you an LBS that is 3 3/4”? Thats cool!

I want a Case XX 6292 large Jack knife. I had one once, and I traded it. I've regretted it for 20 years, and I haven't found another one. That one had red bone, though I'm not really particular on color. I also had a purple smooth appaloose trapper that I traded, which I think of at the same time as the aforementioned 92 Jack, as I traded them together.

Like this? You can't have it.:)

An alox in chestnut jigged bone

Take! :D But only if you do overseas shipping...🤣:thumbsup:

After a night of odd but OK dreams I awoke with a crazy idea about Multi Grail.

Many people seek a Punch or suchlike on their Stockman in lieu of say a Spey, don't mind the idea but don't enthuse so much either, fortunately tastes vary :thumbsup: What I'd like is a small Pruner on a Stockman (or large 🤣) instead of a Spey, it's a really useful blade for opening blister packs and other infuriating packages, plus it slices stuff like wire and of course plants, gets in very tight spaces. In fact, I'd like to see a GEC 32 with small Pruner secondary or White Owl but nobody else thinks like this ......;) This SAK is unfortunately obsolete so can't be easily replaced, pity as single spring very handy.

This Stag Dixie pretty well covers it, really like the blade variation and how they sit low in the knife- makes handling a lot better. However, grail is something sought but never found....if only the Dixie were SMALLER. It may happen but only if Bill Howard wills it :D Could also be in all steel/stainless....he'll never wear that one ! 🤣;)

SMALLER?!? 🤯😳
I have an 828318 Dixie but with "Copperhead Jigged Bone" covers.

IMHO At only just 4 inches closed, the 82 Dixie Stockman is plenty small enough.
I'd rather one the size of a Case 75 (4.25 inch closed) or Old Timer 858 (4.625 inch closed) or even 4.75 to 5.25 inch closed, if they make a different size.

The Old Timer 858 is not "too big" for loose in RFP carry, any more than a Case 75 is.
Like the Case 75, it both looks and feels more "robust" or"solid" than my Case 18, Case 87, and same size as the 87, KaBar 1081.

I tried a Buck 373 (same size as the 303) to see if I liked a "medium" stockman. I didn't so I gave it to (at the time) a fellow trucker I knew.
It did not feel as good in hand as a 301, plus it looked and felt weaker or more fragile. (Yes, I am aware it isn't.)
As far as I recall, I have never owned or used the Old Timer 34OT.
I suspect the ONLY thing I would prefer a (US) 34OT over a 303/373 is the (US) 34OT has carbon steel blades.

I just can't seem to warm up to the 3.625 inch closed "Medium" stockman.

(For my accumulation of Stockman's the Old Timer 858 is a "large"; the Case 75 is a "medium"; the 3.875 to 4 inch a "small"; 3.75" Sowbelly a "tiny" , the 18 a "teeny tiny", the rest are a "micro". 😇👍)

As no doubt more than one desire, I'll "SHHHHHHHH!!!!" and go back under my rock. 😇👍

I’ve been thinking about this one for awhile. To be honest if this had a spey added to it , it would probably be my grail knife. I’ve always wanted a stag or elk 301 with flat grind. I’m sure in in the minority but I really like spey blades.D0E46E16-74B3-4D1B-85EA-08322C690175.jpeg
