What would you choose?

Saving up for another folder , have bought a few this year but am feeling I need to get better quality and worry less about quantity. Knives in the running are Spyderco Paramilitary, Benchmade mini-rukus, and Zero Tolerance 0200. Of these what would you choose or what would you choose in the ~$150 range and why. Definitely open to suggestions.

I think the 0200 is one of the best duty ready folder values going today. I own two plus a couple 0300 series knives.

But as an EDC I'd personally choose the Para of those you mentioned, hands down. It's a bit smaller carry, lighter and without measuring them I suspect it's thinner too. The lock is probably safer too though you will probably not fail the liner lock on the 0200.

Addendum:

As stated, for $150 or so I'd take the Military in a heartbeat.

Good luck on your choice!

I would probably go for a Benchmade 710, Spyderco Military or the 0200. There are alot of good choices out there. It just depends on what suits you the best, I recommend finding a place to handle the knife before hand, but to each his own.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

Para has a blade too thin for my tastes as a (part time) hard use folder.

The 200 has failed spine whack for me, if you put any cred into that test.

Here's a really crappy pic of the 200. I ended up giving it to a friend.

All the knives in the pic were modded by me.

Do you think your wave on the 0200 Somehow damaged the lock after a bit, causing the spine whack failure...?

The wave doesn't affect the lock as far as I know. I was thinking about removing the G10 and adjusting the screw length accordingly to keep as a framelock. I still wonder how that would have turned out.

Thats why waved knives are infamous for getting play.. At least all the models that I have handled. Such as emersons.. I know my brothers emerson knives are all just about shot from the wave... Just a speculation.. His waved 14205 does not have any issues after months..

To the OP..
I would suggest a Para mili, military, and the 14205.. The para is one of my favorites followed by the 14205 and mini rukus. Ease of use for these... And great utility blades.

You talking about the 0200? How thick was the lock .07?

sounds about right... don't know for sure, don't own a mic.

The liners are steel, so I bet it could take the stress.

Sounds about right to me.. Were you thinking about doing that so you wouldnt have to worry about a failure.. That way your grip would make it secure... It would make it more pocket friendly.. Cool Beans, Over tired.

That's the idea. The bare liners would look semi knarly but then again, so do some of my wave conversions ;)

Whatever.. To each his/her own... Otherwise this little world would be pretty dull!!!
Take it easy Wave Master.

I think think the liners on the 0200 are closer to .80", at least they are according to my micrometer.

From the ones listed I say the ZT0200. Of course you might want to give the ZT0500 MUDD a look as it is one more nice piece of knife!! It is about $144 online from the pharmacy.:D

One thing I do with my linerlocks and framelocks is to disassemble them and I will give the lock a little more bend. This causes the locking bar to be stiffer, and the likelyhood of it closing is reduced. The locks on both of my ZT0200's have been done this way and they are not going to come unlocked until I purposely push the liner out of the way. I do a spinetap test more than a spine whack. Usually consist of 5 rapid taps. On both of the 0200's the lockbars have not moved any. Now, I did not try the spine tap before I stiffened the lock so I don't know if it would slip or not, but I do know that I have a lot of confidence in the 0200 not closing accidentaly, but of course I handle it like a nonlocking knife anyway!

I would start looking at some customs...there are many that would fall into your price range.
