What would you do? Trading here vs. selling elsewhere

Howdy. I was about to offer an item for a knife on the trading forums when the nervous part of me started worrying about getting ripped off, particularly since there's no recourse in that eventuality. The safest thing would probably be to sell the item on eBay but then there are the fees to consider. Can anyone offer any advice? What would you do? Thanks

I edited your original post to avoid the appearance of trying to sell your item without the proper membership (and in the wrong part of the site).

Please keep the discussion generic to avoid any conflict of interest and possible repercussions. Thanks.

Well, I'll add my two cents. I think that the overwhelming majority of forum members are honest, stand up folks. There will always be a few that will give the lie to that statement.

I'd check the length of time the person has been participating here and the rep they have developed both via their posts and their trades. That should give you a very good idea of their character.

If that isn't sufficient to make you feel comfortable then it's not worth going forward with the trade.

There is no such thing as a sure thing but that said, it's the queer deal that's the rare(r) bird in these parts.

This is a fine forum to trade on. Do your research on your prospective trade partner and you have nothing to worry about. Send your item to a brand new untrusted member and you could run into problems, but the VAST majority of them are still good people who will do you right.

Like they said... if you are careful about who you deal with, you'll be fine. If they have good feedback and have been here for a while, they probably aren't going to rip you off.

If your gut says you don't really trust someone, then don't deal with them.

I have traded hundreds of times here.I have only ever had one guy try to rip me off and that deal was on another forum.
You should be good to go as long as the person has good feedback and has been here a while. If they don't ask if they will ship first.
I did not mind when I was new and even offered to do it on my first few trades.I even shipped first a couple weeks ago when asked with a member that had not been here as long as me and had less feedback.

I always just look at how long they've been around and their feedback score. I've only done two trades I think, both went well, as far as the transactions. The items were as represented, and were shipped right away, so I got what I agreed upon.
If you plan on selling much at all, it's worth getting the Gold Membership, you also get the Private messaging which helps with doing the transactions. If you go Gold, you can sell your item and ask for a USPS Money Order, or do Pay Pal, then you can buy what you want. Trading is only good when both parties are happy, and the items are as they have been described.
