What would you get for $500

Right, I've been saving up a little in anticipation for the Dutch Knife Exhibition.

So I was wondering: What you YOU get for $500 approx?

So far I've been drooling over Yuna's, Amherst's and 1 or two custom makers that are from around here.

But what would YOU spend it on? (Especially if it was your first over $150 knife)

What do you plan to do with it? Use it or safe queen it?

If you plan on carrying and using it, what will you expect out of it? Your EDC needs, are they more than fruit, cardboard, tape, and a stray string or two? What type of locks do you like if any at all? What size and weight knife will you carry and still be comfortable? Do you like a well used knife to look "well used," or do you like something with G-10 scales and a stonewashed blade... that will look brand new after a quick scrub?

Do you like slipjoints, Amherst makes a nice knife I played with a bunch at Blade. IIRC "Pappy" (he is the knifemaker) was banned here? Maybe look into that, I like to buy from people I can trust... And maybe he IS trustworthy? I'm not sure :o

That is a TON of questions, but that's a TON of money for one knife. When you find a knife your proud to own and it works right for you it is well worth it. IMHO ... and with $500 you have a lot of options.

Ha, yes. That's a TON of questions indeed.

Well, my EDC needs are fairly light. Cut some packages, some fruit and often not much more. I've been EDCing a Queen Gunstock a lot recently and it's just fine as an EDC. Sometimes I just crave something bigger and I carry that.

I did look into the whole "Pappy" thing. And from what I understand he came through for his customers although it took a long time. If I purchase one from them though I'll do it through a vendor somewhere. I've heard that Amherst although they make nice knives aren't too good on communication

Locks are optional for me. If the thing is wellmade I'll probably never use it in such a way that a lock is really needed. but if I do get one it'll have to be a good one.

Also I'm not nessecarily looking to spend the entire amount. If I don't I might just spend the leftovers on tools and materials so I can make myself something nice.

But in basis I'm curious about what YOU'd get. And why.

Please put yourself in my position. You have a ton of money to spend on something nice with no guilt attatched whatsoever (saved up, it's YOUR money remember).

What knife would you spend it on?

PS, I don't do Save Queens. I think it's money wasted. But that's just my view.

What I would pick isn't a folder.

Actually what I did pick (as my first and only ~$500 -- actually a little over) knife is this:

Busse CGFBM (Combat Grade Fusion Battle Mistress).

Well worth it, and treated like a biker chick, not a safe queen.

$495 US.

The postage would screw me though! :D

Nice photo Coop.

I was also thinking about blowing $500 on knives and I wanted to get other people's opinions on what they liked. I'm still debating on quantity over quality but I'm leaning towards quality. If you are thinking about getting only one or two knives and being satisfied, I completely understand.

I don't know enough about custom knife makers so if it were me, I'd probably get a Chris Reeve Sebenza 21 Large/ micarta inlay. I haven't handled one yet but I'm sold on the overall design--especially the pivot. The Sebenza is well known high quality knife from a good company so I think it is a safe purchase. It definitely isn't as beautiful as some of the customs out there though.

NICE!

Yeah, I saw your thread only after I'd made mine. I'm also leaning towards quality. The knife show is about 25 days away. And by that time I'll have a lot of cash to spend.

Don't know what I'll buy once I get there, or even IF I'll buy something. but it's made me curious. That's all.

with $500 to knife? I'd get Busse ^^ One with Cpl Punishment is showing would be nice ^^

Actually I'm in a pretty similar situation. I'm in Tokyo and at the end of the month there's a knife show here and I have my cash saved up. Not sure what I'll get either.

If you can snag a Yuna, I would suggest that you do so.

They probably won't be available at the show. Our local show is quite small. But if I don't see anything I like enough I'll just order a Yuna, everytime I see one I like it more....

It's all your fault too. The first ones I saw were yours from the EDC thread.

Try the forums sales for a DDR or Strider SMF.

I have one of Amherst's folders and carry it often. It's a nice traditional type pocket knife with mammoth ivory scales. I paid around 300 dollars for it, but the quality seems worth the price.

With that kind of money, I'd probably pick up a set of Shapton stones just to get that ridiculous sharp edge. Looks like it'd be fun.

Without a doubt I would get a Yuna. For a number of reasons. Extremely tough knives. The blades have zdp/ats laminate and are double tempered stay sharp atleast twice as long as any other knife I've used(Maybe more). Easy to sharpen on my dmt stones. Incredible ergonomics. Great customer service. If you're looking for a light small EDC that is awesome go with the EQ and ask for the zdp/ats blade. It's a little over 2oz. I would just order from him though because he'll make the knife for you and you can get the exact knife you want.
