For a demko ad20s in kinda rough shape? Handles have been dyed. Blade has a ton of patina n from sellers description pitting. I'm pretty sure I sent him a generous offer n I don't care about the patina or pitting. It's the dying of the handle that subtracted from the value for me. I want it as another user.

I really expected the guy to be stoked and jump at my offer but I haven't heard anything back. Not sure if he got it off the auction site I'm trying to buy it off but I would never pay those prices for a new one there. So brand new it's what 4-450? What's its roughed up value to you?

After thinking about it a minute. I'd go a little higher but he'd have to take it apart n show me the pivot, washers, n blade hole. If those are to far gone I was way too generous for what I want. I had no problem using the one I got for a little over 4 cause it's so nice to use.

Also why does everyone need the best users to throw in a safe n not check on for so long that they get pitting?

No way it got pitted sitting in a safe or stored even kind of carefully. It takes time and a decent amount of moisture for that to happen. Example when I was younger my brother "borrowed" my carbon steel kukri for a year and when I "found" it under his bed in a basement it was sitting on the concrete outside of the sheath. It was covered in rust , the lightest rust was peppered red dots the worse was coarse red no visible steel showing. After I cleaned it up there was very very slight pitting on the tip of the blade that sat on the concrete floor and was damp when I found it.

If I were asking this question, what would your answer be to me. There lyes your answer

It's M4 so I haven't had issues with it but my coworker swears if he looks at his pm2 wrong it'll rust. I checked this morning n they accepted the 300. As long as the pivot didn't get too bad it's worth it to me. I would have went to 350 if I knew the pivot was OK.

So now. I'm pretty sure if it was ryte died it won't chip off or anything. Scales through demko are available for 100 so it wouldn't be that bad to replace that n be into it for pretty much original pricing

I didn't plan on the first being a user but I couldn't stop playing with it. One day I found out in thick winter gloves I can open n close one handed with out thinking about it. Really the best work knife I have. Even tho I don't have one when a coworker asks what knife they should get n are willing to spend a little I suggest a 20.5. I just like the size n I think the 20s is still made in merica. I didn't sleep at all last night. Sorry for the rambling on n on

Never loan your knives. Especially to a relative.

I'm interested in seeing pics when you get it. Hopefully he was just trying to fully disclose the condition to be a good seller and the blade isn't too bad. My concern would be that he dyed the scales without disassembly an just dunked the whole knife in the dye bath. Alot of the tutorials online are shown doing that because they happen to be dying Spyderco Salts (still, it just never sat right with me personally). That could be a possible explanation for the condition of the blade however, and unfortunately not bode well for your hopes on the pivot. 🤞

EDIT: Also, I'm not sure if you mentioned if the scales were G10 or Grivory, but all due respect to Larry above I'd be a bit cautious with using acetone, especially in amounts that would be enough to remove dye (translation: yeah, don't).
