I am a big spydie fan, I also like the looks of emerson. Have never pulled the trigger on one though. If I can find the extra money for one in the sub 150 range, what would you recommend for my first one??? I want plain edge, I thought the a-100 looked pretty good. Also, why are so many out of stock??

I ended up with a CQC8 Horseman as my first Emerson. Picked it up from a member on these forums for a decent price too.

Get one of these! This is a classic!

I personaly got a mini-7b for my first Emerson, but really I think there is no best first Emerson, any knife you like is as good a first knife as any. :)

I was planning to use as a weekend edc. I get the impression from you all that any of the knives are a good place to start. Thanks for the info. Now, just trying to find them in stock seems to be its own challenge.

Duud--- It doesn't matter which Emerson you get, you'll no doubt love it. And, no doubt, get another.

I have been looking around some of the posts in this section, and I gotta say that there seems to be quite a bit about QC issues. Kind of scares me to be honest.

Once you get an Emerson model that you really fall in love with, eventually you will send it to Reese Weiland for some top class mods. That's what I do.

My first emerson was a CQC-8...shouldve never sold it off...but i have three that im very happy with now, mini 15, 14, and 7BW...just look for one you like and im sure you will be very happy with it:D:thumbup:

There's been alot of Spydie bashing lately over on that forum as well. Emerson and Spyderco are my two favorite knife brands, hands down. Never had any real issues with either in many years of ownership of Spydercos and seven happy months with my Emersons.:D

Try this, get an Emerson and see for yourself if it lives up to the hype (either positive OR negative). Make up your own mind on the QC. Me personally, I LOVE my Emersons and my Spydercos.

When you get a good one, they're good.
Find a dealer who'll inspect it for blade centeredness and lock-up, or, better yet, find a place where you can check them out in person (harder to find those though:().

Thanks for the reassurance fellas! I should try for myself and decide.

Get the one that started it all, the 7 in some iteration. I've been carrying a mismarked 7b all week and truthfully can't find fault with it. Stain finished and the thing cuts like a straight razor. I can truly say this one is VERY well made. keepem sharp
