What would you say in this situation?

I normally don't even think of opening a knife with two hands unless Im in public around families. South Carolina people don't seem to be so frightened of knives.I had a woman give me a What is that? at work when I used my serrated Endura to cut my pizza up.It works better than the canteen sporks.I told her It's called a damn knife and all the guys and a woman laughed.Almost everyone carries a knife at work.A quick opening knife is essential on my job.Usually when I use a knife in public people like it and comment on how sharp it is.I did have a man tell me I didn't need a knife that big once when I cut open a pack of batteries on the job.I told him he didn't need his Corvette-(speed limit is only 75 MPH ,his car can easily go twice that fast ) and he did'nt need a swimming pool that his grandkids could drown in.I think he got "it".

A hidden release D/A is a side opening dual action knife. It can be opened manually or automatically by a hidden release (usually a tilting bolster, scale, or hidden button). A leaf spring in the spine of the knife is propelled forward when the bolster or scale is tilted thus opening the knife automatically. One of my favorite designs in this category is the Microtech LCC D/A.

That Microtech is a cool knife.

Thanks for the helpful info.

About that woman who gave you that look... Did you offer her a piece of pizza? :D

Yesterday, I was attending a lecture, and refreshments were offered afterwards. Problem was, there was a package of something, I don't remember exactly what, that was covered in plastic, and it wasn't opening easily. So I slipped my hand into my pocket and withdrew this:

Gently flipped it open...

and then smoothly sliced the plastic package. It opened like butter. (I keep my blades sharp...) Whereupon, a young fella's eyes half bugged with incredulity and admiration... and said something like... "that's a switchblade!"

I told him it wasn't a switchblade, as switchblades have a button on the handle to deploy the blade, but that it was a simple little flip open pocket knife. I closed it for him (one handed of course :D) and flipped it open again for him. Closed it and showed it to him again.

No problems.

By the way, that IKBS system is smoooooth...

How would you have handled this situation?

Thought you were gonna say he asked to try it, that might've been a slight problem.

I generally open all folding knives around people I don't know with two hands so as not to alarm . In this manner I can disguise the spring assist .

I do the same, last year while opening a bag at a company fundraiser with a sak, our then new receptionist said "you carry a knife, that is scary"

I replied, wrong, what is really scary is that I am the company safety officer.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit to find out that she carries/has-with-her-in-a-purse-etc., a nail file, which can be plenty scary too.
