I'm heading out for a three day stint in the woods. Started looking @ my choices of cutlery and thought I would share. Also am very interestd in what othere "knife nuts" would take with them. Axes, saws, and knives. Here is my selection for the three days.

I forgot to add my fixed blade backup. I always carry a good Mora to back up my normal fixed blade.

Dude...you dont need a "backup fixed blade" when youv got a folder and a hatchet. You can use the Hatchet for most of your work anyway if your so inclined.

Me personaly? 1) Fiskars hatchet 2) Ka-bar Little Finn 3) Multitool. Throw those in a Camelback with a small med kit, some fire starters, a space blanket, and some food and your good for three days easy

For the most part you are right. However my Mora doesn't take up hardly any room in my pack, and only cost me $9.00. In my experience, it's better to have it.... than not!!!!! Luck favors the prepared!

Leatherman Juice "Pro"

Gerber Sport Saw (I seem to use it a lot.)

Bark River North Star or Fallkniven F-1 (depending on weather forcast).

1 lb custom hand axe I had made years ago. (But the Bark River Golok is getting lots of consideration. It turns out to be a batoning machine and would be good for brambles I encounter in some areas.)

Usually a Helle Lapplander or a BK 5 on my pack and a SAK adventurer in my pocket.

I do exchange the big knives alot though. I like my 17'' HI Khuk when canoeing, my BRK&T Golok when going through thicker stuff, and I ditch all the big knives for a 5'' FB when above treeline or in areas where trees and vegetation are scarce anyways.

If I had to pick an all arounder though, it would be between the BK 5 or the Helle Leuku.

It's taken me alot of teeth gritting and hardwork to break the habit of carrying more than two blades though!:D

For three days I would take a 6-8 inch utility type blade, and a 3-5 inch blade for smaller camp tasks. For three days an axe is overkill for me in most situations.

I have a Northstar that I like a lot, but I keep grabbing one of the Moras. Anyways, here's what I'd take for a few days in the woods.

tarmix101, whta is the small fixed blade in your first pic, looks nice.

for three days, i'd probably go for my rd7, and a sak.

i don't have a small hatchet that i like carrying yet, so i'd tote the rd7 for heavier work. once i find the right hatchet, i'll add a sak and one of my moras.

One big reason I'm taking an axe is where I'm going is un-familiar territory. I never feel right with just a knife when I'm not sure what I'm going to run into. Also, this is a PACK trip, by myself. All I have is what I bring. Otherwise I wouldn't bring a hatchet. Mabey just a chain saw:D

It's called the "Bushcraft". Made by a Guy in my hometown. O1 steel. Scandi grind, and I do love it so..... By far my "go to" knife thus far!

When you carry a 6-8" utility blade. What do you carry? Just curious.

I know how you feel. I can't decide what to bring.... ever. so I bring as many as I can fit.... without ditching FOOD :D

I have a BRKT highland. Do you like your Northstar? Never owned a Fallkniven..... so many praise them... how do they (BRKT vs Fallkniven) compare?

I thought I would add an interesting possibility for the fixed blade. Check out the Sog Hunter Revolver. It has a single "blade" that pivots; one is either a smooth traditional blade (serrated version available too) and the other is a very sharp saw blade that can be used for many chores whether hunting or hiking. My first reaction to the blade was that it was kind of stupid. Looked at it more and decided that this blade had potential even if it looked a bit unusual. Got one and it comes with a nice leather sheath and I have no doubt that it will be an excellent blade for camping, hunting, or general woods carry on a belt. (Go to SOG forum here and link to SOG web site to view.)

For starters I'd try to have:
Gransfors Bruks Wildlife Hatchet
Strider SNG
Leatherman Charge XTi

That looks like an Allan Blade Bushcrafter. I have his Scandi Pack Pal; great knife. Lately i've been trying to cut down on weight so it's usually the SAk Farmer and the scandi pack pal for most bush trips.
