What would you think of a smaller Perrin bowie?

I traded my Perrin away because I thought the handle was "chintzy". I did not like the way the plastic felt, and the rubber inserts made it worse. I traded straight-up for a BM710BTS and was glad when the guy on the other side said he was happy!

In fact, I think ALL of the Spydie fixed blades would be far, far better with a visible full tang and grippy G-10 or matted micarta.

I just got a set of kitchen knives with real wood handles, and although I like them, I was dissappointed that they too were not of full tang construction.

Just seems like a better handle material and tang that extends through it are more congruous with the concept of the spydie that would take a licking and keep on ticking...

jhillas - I'd have to disagree with you on the "chintzy" part of your post. I bought mine sight unseen and was worried how it would feel. I was very pleased with the grip on it.

As for the full tang, unless you are prying with this knife, I doubt you could break it. If you want a pry bar, buy one.

In my opinion, this is the best fixed blade knife I have handled. The Ronin is a close second, but this one rocks.

If I had any complaints about the Perrin, I would pick on the sheath. The sheath is the only thing that I have from Spyderco that disappoints me. I am getting that rectified, as I type, by Normark.

To keep on topic - A smaller Perrin would be most interesting.

Mr. Glesser - Keep up the good work. Your knives are a joy to behold.

Fred is a big fan of small fixed blade.
He made a lot of his Streetbowie design before The SPyderco FB04.

Actually Fred approached SPyderco, because he has the opportunity to design a knife for the French Commandos.

Spyderco like the ideas and Fred send to them a prototype.

Fred is really please with the full flat ground and the confortable addictive handle.

This knife has been design as a weapon first and then as a tool.

I carrie mine in my right front pocket and forget it.
Actually it's a long as a AFCK but with 5 inches of VG10 steel.

I love mine. It's can be used also as a diving knife.

cheers

JM

BTW if you want a small Perrin...
The Ronin is really close to Fred designs.

I love mine
