What wrong with the BM Rift

I've always like the looks of this knife and never owned a BM other then an Ambush that I bought for my son, which was a nice knife for the price, AUS8, but kind of thick.

Anyway, I've noticed a lot of Rifts up for sale on the exchange. Why are they not being kept and used?

beats me. I've played with several and they seemed great. I'd recommend it.

It's a little overpriced for the 154CM though, in my opinion.

I liked mine ok.. it was nothing special though. The thing that really bothered me the most was the horn near the rear of the handle.. you had to adjust your grip around this. I assume if your hand is perfectly built to just mould around the horn it would feel great.. but you were limited in your grip option with that horn there. I really didn't like that as one of my fingers had to be spaced out further then what is natural. So.... it didn't feel natural..

Exactly. I sold mine because of this.

It is my all time favorite knife. I have had a lot of nice knives but none that I like better. It's got IMO the best lock (even better than some other knives with AXIS lock), is the perfect size, has a ton of blade for its handle length, has a refined shape when closed, and has a unique look between the reverse tanto blade and the 3D machine handle.

I have 7 of them including a couple of the M4 LE models which is always in my front right pocket. I have carried a Rift exclusively since I got my first one which was a few years ago. I have to carry 2 or 3 knives at a time just so some of my other knives get carried. I think you can find them for around $115 which isn't too expensive IMO. There are many knives that cost the same or more with the same or comparable steel such as VG10.

I say take advantage of the ones being sold in the exchange at a reduced cost and get yourself a great knife.

I bought the Bone Collector, #15020-1, first... and like it a lot better. Following up with the lighter 950 Rift was a mistake, of sorts. I cannot bring myself to sell the Rift - yet! Seriously, check out the B.C.!

If you buy it new.. then any benchmade is overpriced in my opinion.. lol. But I have seen the Rift on the used market as low as $80, but usually around $100. I think that that is a great price for it. Here is a pic of my Rift when I had it..

I'm not exactly sure what Stainz conclusion was, but if he was saying he liked the bonegrip more, I'd have to agree. I like the green color, the cool backspacer and so on. But it's a pretty massive size for such a small blade length. And it has all that bone collector stuff on the blade.

If Benchmade wants to take the rift to the next level, they need to do an alternating white/blue G10 pattern next with matching anodized blue thumbstuds. I can pretty much guarantee that'd be a hit.

As per the comfort of the Rift's handle, feels great to me, but of course, we all have different hands.

Man, love the CF/GC grip. If they had offered it without that black blade I probably would have picked one up.

THIS.

Rather depressing, really. If it wasn't for the horn, I would certainly own at least one. Excellent design... :(

I love my M4 Rift, and the handle feels great to me. I've used this thing HARD with no complaints from me.

Incahiker are you paying MSRP for them? If bought from an online store that sells at a competitive price then they are priced similar to a Spyderco and a fair price IMO. If you buy a Benchmade at a certain price you will get comparable materials, fit, and craftsmanship as a equal price Spyderco. They don't make many cheap knives but a Griptlian for 70 bucks is a good deal IMO.

As far as the Bone Collector it is too bulky, has a shorter blade, I'm not a big fan of the blade shape, and there is an annoying corner of the tang that sticks out when closed. I would take the Rift in a heartbeat between the 2 and in fact I haven't even carried my BC yet. Different strokes for different folks.

Bro, what's up with you always copying and pasting the specs and ad copy on knives - you are cracking me up :D

Its a good size and the horn fits my hand well but the cutouts along the top of the scales that make the G10 look so good also create sharp ridges that are very uncomfortable when hard cutting.

Trust me when I say that I have nothing negative to say about the 950. I sold mine because I've found shorter utility-oriented blades to be more to my liking. So I ended up finding my guy a new home where he'll be put to good use.

The Rift is a really well built and well thought out knife. I was sad to part ways with mine, but in the end I found that I never ever used it. Coincidentally I wanted to make room for more traditionals in my knife collection, so the Rift ended up drawing the short straw.

I had one in charcoal grey and black. I liked it, but didn't love it enough I guess not to let it go. Granted, the blade was awesome, but I found it was kinda hard to flip open with the thumb studs. Maybe it was the way I was holding it in relation to my hand size. Anyway, the reason I say "had" is because I traded it for a ZT 0350 Combo Blade. I took it to my local (pretty crappy) knife shop and that's the only one they would do a trade with me for, even though I also had a 707 Sequel, 3150 Impel, 585 mini barrage, a few mini-grips (one Ritter), and a slightly used 940. I really wanted my first Zero Tolerance, and the ZT 0300 was just too expensive for me because I didn't have any cash at the time. So I made the trade one-for-one. Otherwise I probably would have held onto it if they were willing to consider some of my other blades. I gotta say, I do like the ZT better. Assisted opening with a great "thwack.". But anything wrong with the Rift? No, I don't think so. OP, maybe it's just in higher demand, so that's why people are selling??

It could be all the nutnfancy haters on here getting rid of the blades b/c he just did a glowing review.

Also, I've had 2 and sold them both. Ok knives, they just were not going to be missed if I didn't have them so I got rid of them.

I can understand a person being bothered by the 'horn', as hand sizes certainly differ. For me, the Rift's blade design, looks, and build quality are top shelf. The knife fits my hand perfectly.

I have the cf version that I got from another BC member. Don't know why he sold it but I'm glad I was able to get it. I like the blade shape a lot and the handle woke great to me. I have XL glove hands BTW
