What wrong with the BM Rift

I loved my rift when I had it, sold it because I am a poor college kid and I dont need such a hard use knife so I sold my most expensive knife (Rift) for cash and let a cheaper knife replace it for the time being.

Spyderco Military

Solved all of my issues and then some :D

Different strokes for different folks. I have given a Military a chance a couple times and it always sits in the box and gets traded off. I won't keep or use a Military much less trade my Rift for one. Glad you like yours.

I just ordered a 950 Rift yesterday I'll be sure to post up my impressions of it when it arrives.

i think the rift is one of the better benchmades available right now. big blade in small package, the price of these are pretty good too. i will be ordering another one soon.

That would be my pic... ;)

I'm surprised by the negative comments on the Rift. If I were nominating one Axis knife to represent the whole class (which is a pretty far-fetched idea, given the scope of the product line), I think it would be the 950. It's a great general purpose knife on all counts: ergos, lock strength, blade, etc.

It came from factory with very sharp handle edges...
Also, i don't get why they didn't give it a forward choil too.
I'm making my own with a coarse DMT sharpener.
Also, it couldn't hurt to upgrade to cpm154...
Pretty much my favourite folder of all time aside from that.

It's a great knife. I loved the blade and G10, and was heartbroken when the hump got in the way. Sad to say, ergos are number one for me when deciding on a knife, so the Rift got kicked :(

I love my Rift. It's my favorite BM knife. It is sure a good looking knife and I think alot of owners are scared to use theirs so they end up selling/trading it. The Rift rules IMO.

I agree. I have 2 standard 154CM Rifts and both are excellent. In fact, the Rift I EDC moved a couple of Spyderco's back to their boxes. I've had zero problems with BM's 154CM. It's never chipped or rolled on me (home, woods, and warehouse cutting) and it's easy to keep razor sharp with a strop and a Sharpmaker. Mine both came with less than 20 dps bevels so I didn't have to do much work to get the Sharpmaker to work at the 40 degree setting, the blades were both dead center (something that I'm really anal about), and the ergos on the Rift are perfect for my hand, even with gloves on.

Someone mentioned Bone Collectors up above somewhere. I have both sizes of Bone Collectors, but the Rift is a much better fit for me. I do like the D2 in the BCs and their spear point blades and opening holes, but I'm not real comfortable with the Presidio styled handle. Never worked for me in the original Presidio and while the G10 feels better than aluminium, the shape doesn't fit me well.

I've EDC'd my Rift for quite a while now, it's been a great knife. I must have the ideal hand size because the handle seems to fit perfect.

I had to buy a 585 the other day though, i was told that if i wanted to carry a knife at work it had to be less "intimidating". I went with a plain edge non-coated blade.
