Im thinking about getting a grip for edc and camping. What do you guys think about it?

I have owned a BM Grip D2 for about two years now. It is my EDC. I have deployed with it to the sand box and have used plenty both deployed and stateside. I keep it shaving sharp and it has always worked very well. I haven't had a single problem with it. I think it makes a great EDC IMHO. I would recommend it.

I've owned two and they work work work. They feel incredibly cheap to me with the plasticy handles but don't let that deter you, because they deploy fast, stay locked up and stay sharp a long time. The plasticy scales also make them light and a lot of folks would prefer that over a heavier knife.

For the money it's a hard blade to beat. I've sold both of mine and usually once a week put one in the shopping card to buy again.

On a side note they are both a great size. The large one isn't too large and the small version isn't too amsll. Can't really say enough good things about the function of that knife. I just like a heavier in the hand feel.

I also thought the handles feel so light that they feel cheap.
But to be honest they are tough as heck.

The thing does exactly what it is supposed to do - cut like crazy and locks up like a vault.

I love mine. I have the large - great size.

Grab yourself one ASAP!

I have the large 551. It's a bit big for me, I would recommend getting the smaller one, unless you have a bigger hand/like bigger blades. the deployment of the blade isn't as fast as my SOG Visionary I, but it's still adequately fast.

Its a great knife for EDC or woods carry, the handle is thicker than some others but that also makes it more hand filling while using.

I often take this as my primary knife on hikes and overnights and it does everythins I need it to. its a great lighter weight alternative to my Manix.

I have many Grips and I highly recommend them. I'm not sure exactly how many I have, but it's at least 8 (let's see: 2 full-size Ritter Grips, 2 mini Ritter Grips, 1 gray 154CM grip, 1 yellow 440C grip, 1 D2 grip, 2 black 154Cm grips).

I prefer the mini Grips, they are more comfortable in my hands and more legal in my locale.

Look into the Doug Ritter Griptilians, too.

I've found that I prefer the 154CM grips best.

I've had a D2 551 for 5.5 years now and have used it for everything from slicing open dog food to attempting to cut watermelon to anything a 3.5" blade can be used for in the woods. It locks up rock-solid and holds a good edge.
Yes, the plastic handles feel cheap. They are tougher than I, though! I'd like a version with G10 handles, simply because I love the heft of G10. However, the Grip's handle material makes for a surprisingly light, yet handfilling handle.
If you can, handle both the larger and smaller size to see which feels better in your hand and clipped to your pants. The Grip's handle is contoured instead of flat, so it's a bit wider than many handles. It makes for a very comfortable user.
Grips are a staple in the Benchmade lineup, and for very good reason.

it is an old favorite here nc, lottsa past threads about it.
I recommend it!

let us know what you think if you get it ;)

I have two. A large one for work and a smaller one for....not work. I am never without one. I have gone through a ton of work/everday pocket knives and once I got a grip I have not even thought about getting anything else.

Easy, are you a big knife guy, or a small knife guy?

Because the full size is good sized. It is fine to me, but I like a big knife.

As I have sold a good number of knives, to a fair cross section of people, I would suggest that unless you are convinced of your need of the large one, or unless you are really set on the large one...

You will probably be happier with the small one.

Most people do not like their pockets filled with stuff, they find it uncomfortable, which suggests the smaller one.

The one exception is if your hands aren't real dextrous, or you have not used a thumb stud all that much, in which case, the smaller one can be a bit harder for some to operate.

I now have to decide between the mini and full size. It's for edc.

Get both :D

I really love the mini grip. It's small enough to pretty much dissapear in your pocket while clipped on. Yet it's large enough to tackle nearly any task you ask it to do. It is a great knife and you won't be dissapointed either way you go.

Well i'm 5 ft 5, 200 lbs. I'm kinds big, in fact I think i'm built alot like cutlery lover. Do you guys have any in hand shots of the grip and mini grip.

I'm 6 ft,200 lbs and have large hands - the big Grip fits my hand perfectly. It's great

I've got the mini grip it's been through hell here's pics of it, I work around chemicals, got something on it that ate through the first layer of it!!!!!

Damn, I've been checking out the Ritter Grip for a long time now but I've only owned one knife with plastic handles before (CS) and that has been an issue for me...

I can see one in my future though. The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.

I have the Ritter mini-grip and it is awesome! Lockup is extremely tight and it is very smooth opening right out of the box. Dollar for dollar, it may very well be the best deal in folders out there.
