Sometimes reading pays off. I'm not much of a mechanic, but have tools and common sense.
I canceled a 3 day trip I had planned for this week to save money.
Before leaving, I was planning to take my truck to the shop for a tuneup, and was even going to pay to have the oil changed, since I was feeling lazy. Instead, along with changing the oil as usual, today I got out my Chilton book on it, and began doing the tune up I was planning on paying a shop to do myself. Not sure about a local shop, but dealerships charge about $700 for the 60k mile tuneup, which I'm mimicking, though the truck is actually at 177k, and hasn't missed a lick.
So far, getting off my butt and spending $50, and an hour of my time has saved me about $200.
In the next couple of days, while spending my vacation reading, exercising, and getting the house in tip-top shape, I still have some supplies to buy, stuff to read, and a few hundred dollars to save
That's a really good book!
