What?!

Maybe it was defective? I really just cant imagine why a 400$ knife would fail the spine whack so easily.

An already abused knife fails an abusive test? The only thing proven by that idiot is that the knife isn't idiot-proof.

We have a Chris Reeve Knives forum here. Posting this properly would give someone familiar with this "test" a chance to show you what really happened. Fortunately, I was able to find the original thread for you: umnum test from poland.

When you read it, keep in mind there are a lot of people commenting -- like here -- who don't know what was going on. At post # 15 we get someone who begins to explain that it isn't what it seems. There was a lot of abuse first. Later on, the Reeves get involved also.

I am moving this to the CRK forum.

I hate seeing this dragged back up, but why would a $400 knife fail a spine wack?

If I drive my Porsche through a concrete barrier, would you expect it to still run?

i've never seen this video before but ive heard about it as i've (mostly) lurked the crk forum here for a while but do have a couple comments.
1) i know that knife was thoroughly abused, but i was fairly surprised about how easily it did fail the spine whack test- even on a finger.
2) that being said, i would like to see how other knives of similar build and quality (strider, hinderer, bradley alias, even spyderco and benchmades frame lock knives) would hold up to the same tests. I think it's unfair to say look how badly knife A failed, without also testing knives b, c, d and e.
3)he never really shows or explains why it fails, just shows that it does fail, i would like to see exactly why.

now i didnt read the old thread that esav posted so some of my comments or questions may have already been commented on or answered.

This kind of "testing" doesn't really serve any other purpose than to damage the reputations of perfectly respectable cutlery companies. The same kind of "testing" was recently performed on a Manix 2 and sparked some controversy over at Spyderco.

As both Chris Reeve and Sal Glesser have said in the past, knives are precision cutting tools. They are designed to perform within specified limits and have exact tolerances. Anyone who jams their knife into a refrigerator door fifty times and then expects it to remain in perfect working condition is nothing short of an idiot.
