Am I the only one who carries a trauma pad? (Military designation: Dressing, First Aid, Field, Individual Troop, Camouflaged. 4 by 7 Inches). I carry this in my right cargo pocket. (Always wear black BDU pants). Right now I'm experimenting with ways of keeping the plastic wrapper on the trauma pad from wearing through. Any suggestions? My first try was a sheath made of duct tape, but my hypothesis is that it still has too much give to prevent the plastic from breaking open. We'll see. I need to come up with something stiff to minimize wear that isn't uncomfortable to carry.
Anyway, right front: Fisher Space Pen, Sharpie Twin Tip black permanent marker (fine tip on one end, ultra-fine tip on the other), disposable lighter (Also don't smoke. I just never know when I might want to set something on fire (that explanation gets some weird looks, by the way)), large paper clip, short length of dogtag ball chain (found this on the floor at work and have continued to carry it for months for no real reason), S&W Special Ops knife clipped to pocket (say what you will about S&W knives, or don't. I love the look and the slim profile. This will probably be replaced by an Emerson Commander if I ever get the chance to hold one to see how I like the feel).
Right cargo: trauma pad, hemostat, small notepad
Right rear: wallet with chain containing cash, a couple misc. business cards, stamp cards for pizza places. On end of chain on the front belt loop are two photon-IIIs, a red and a white.
Left rear: thin velcro pouch (containing drivers license, library card, $20 bill, spare car key. Pouch is hooked to button slit with a length of ball chain so I can't lose it), Certs Powerful mints, black plastic comb.
Left front: small Victorinox Swiss pocket knife, Listerine oral care strips, 3 quarters, varying packs of gum depending on what I decide to buy.
Left cargo: car and house keys with p-38 can opener, turquoise photon-II microlight, on a black ASP Key Defender.
Belt: Gerber Multiplier 600 Deluxe with screwdriver bit set, and cable ties attached to the back of belt with doubled electrical tape. Sometimes a first aid kit attached with ALICE clips if I feel like messing with it (the first aid kit usually gets left behind if I'll be close to it, but the trauma pad is always with me. Right now I'm in the market for a better pouch than this
http://www.militaryclothing.com/IBS/SimpleCat/Product/asp/product-id/195143.html, which is too thick considering how much I have packed into it. Any recommendations for something that holds about the same volume as that but is maybe a bit wider and not so thick?)
Coat, if I'm wearing one: EMT shears, roll of electrical tape, gum, etc.
That's it for always-carried equipment, I think. I carry plenty more crap in my car's trunk and my medium ALICE pack for class and to/from work.
Sorry that was so verbose but I like to watch myself type, I guess. I tend to go off on little side tracks just like this completely unnecessary statement. The funny thing is since I didn't post this right away few people will even bother to read it. OK, I think it's time to finally bring this post to an unceremonious end.
