Whatcha got on order? (Traditional Knives Only)

I was raised up in an era where folders go in pockets and fixed blades go on belts. As an adolescent in the late 80's/early 90's I was even rebellious enough to buy a Spyderco with a pocket clip! LOL! That was really stretching the bounds of propriety in those times.

I've been watching some of y'all for several years now as you've been flaunting this EDC pocket-carry fixed blade "thing." Cult, fad, fetish, style - whatever it is. One slow day I found myself at work making little charts on yellow stickies comparing dimensions of LT Wright and Bark River models, but none of them seemed to really speak to me. I didn't see any that I just HAD to have. Then one day one of you posted a Redmeadow Cowbell, and I was hooked. The blade shape, the micarta, the leather-work. The whole package just spoke to me and I wanted in. I wanted to be in the in-crowd. I wanted to see what it's all about, and if the utility of this EDC pocket fixed blade thing is all it's cracked up to be.

I quickly headed over to the Redmeadow sub forum, credit card in hand, only to learn that I wasn't allowed in. I learned that the Cowbell was crafted by a man, one man, not a company. A man named John who had a "real" job and did this on the side because he loves it, and he's good at it. I signed up, got on his email/newsletter list, and waited. Over a year later, I'm still waiting. There has been one "dibs" release since then, and I missed it driving home from work. By the time I saw the email, it was all over.

I'm a patient man, but the problem is that the bug to see what this EDC pocket fixed-blade thing is all about just wasn't going into remission. So I looked through my knives, and pulled out a fixed blade I thought would work to test the waters - a Buck 538 Open Season Small Game knife in a custom leather sheath. I've been carrying it for a little over a week now, and I get it. I really get it. It's been super handy and useful, and has gone just about everywhere with me this past week or so: office, yard work, church, grocery, etc. But at 7 5/8" overall, it's pushing the size limits for my pocket. Sooo, I found myself again making charts of dimensions and specs on yellow stickies at work. I quickly landed on LT Wright over Bark River. At some point in the past year, I found LT Wright while looking for a custom sheath with fire steel loop for my son's Buck 104 Compadre. I was really impressed with the sheath, service, communication, and the company. So, long story, short, I now have a Frontier First and a Frontier Valley in the mail to me. They're both due to arrive on Monday, meaning this weekend will seem to be the longest in quite a while. Not that that's a bad thing. There are definitely worse problems one could suffer. :)

I'm not giving up on my hopes of landing a Cowbell at some point, maybe, if I'm lucky, but I'm pretty excited to try out a couple of new LT Wright's and see how they fit. Plus, they spark with flint - bonus!

So, y'all have a great weekend and don't mind me. I'll be the guy sitting in a lawn chair at the end of the driveway whittling a piece of cedar from the yard with an old Buck 307 and waiting on Mr. Postman.

An H10123 in Frontier Bone! I feel like I'm the only one that gets super excited for H10 runs. This pattern has been one of my all time favorite fixed blade models for years and is the only knife pattern I'm intentionally collecting multiples of. To me it is one of the most perfect EDC fixed blade designs. And boy are they beautiful.

Me ever since I saw "out for delivery" this morning:

I'm still having my usual picture-pirating problems.
I buy-it-nowed a Case amber jigged bone large stockman on the bay for $46. Two people watching it ahead of me might have thought $46 was too much for a used one, but it doesn't look very used to me.

Same here. I’ve carried a pocket knife virtually non stop since the 60’s. When I was growing up, it was perfectly acceptable to do so. Folders are good for convenience and certainly get the cutting tasks as well as fingernail cleaning done just fine. Having said that, I like fixed blades. Carrying one on my belt is great while camping or hunting but pretty uncomfortable and bulky for EDC (and IWB with a bigger blade isn’t for me) I was on this journey and to an extent still am. For a good long while I have been carrying a Bradford Guardian 3 in front scout carry style. It hides pretty darn well under a tshirt using that method, is ready to go in an instant and overall a good experience so far. Only issue there is getting used to moving a belt buckle to 1-2 o’clock. Easy enough to adjust to and worth the effort for me. One in the pocket would be preferable at times depending on what you want to have in your pockets. The overall below or at 7” mark seems to be a sweet spot size limit for concealment. You might check out Horsewright knives. He makes some really nice custom stuff in that range.

I’ve seen some of Horsewright Horsewright ’s pictures, but mostly his awesome leatherwork - I should definitely take a closer look at his knives.

I get bored on slow nights at work. So I have a Camillus 23 and a Pal Easy open Jack I bought on the last hitch that should both arrive tomorrow or Wednesday.

Not that I needed either of them, but they’re cheaper than the guns I usually buy when I get an itchy wallet. Inflation taking it’s toll I guess, had to find a cheaper vice. 😀

I just ordered my first ever GEC knife, a Tidioute #14 Lick Creek Barlow.
Ok, I might have just been scammed. I bought it on a website that isn't listed as a distributor on GEC's website. I paid about $70 for it...but based on the prices I'm seeing on Ebay, I either got scammed or someone got ripped off.

I don't usually haunt this thread, but I must say that sounds too good to be true. They cost more that that on release, IIRC.

Let us know how it turns out. If it’s a scam let us know who to avoid. I’m still hoping for the best. 🤞
