Some of y'all were talking about the current
state of "Country Music".
For all of you, I'm going to share
three Country songs that I think are
absolutely BEAUTIFUL.
A few of my buddies here know that I took care of my Mom (*for about 10.5 years), as she slipped into the grips of Alzheimer's. By the end of that particular
nightmare, I was feeding/bathing/wiping/etc. her. Honestly, I'm not
ashamed to admit that the whole thing was pretty horrible.
Anyhoo, about 10 years ago, I was driving Mom to a Christmas party at my Aunt's house. She was still ambulatory at that time.
I had the truck radio on a "Classic Country" station. At some point during that trip, and through the otherwise
silence in the cab of the truck, I realized that Mom was singing
Every. Single. Word. of Glen Cambell's "Gentle on my Mind". For me, it was an absolutely
wondrous and
horrific moment.
Here's Raul Malo, and "The Mavericks", paying tribute to
that song... (*Yes, I know...It will ALWAYS be EPIC)
