And have gone head over heels for a lot of his stuff since! The guy is simply a genius.
My favorite of his
Cool. And always like a good mixed meter when it doesn’t sound counterintuitive.
Anybody else remember when country music was actually good and not complete garbage?
I know. Depressing. Here’s another good one of his from before he was a selloutYes, but recall that Blake Shelton has also done this and many more like it:

For me the good stuff stopped after Cash, Willie, Kris, Waylon, Merle, Hank Jr., Campbell, and very few others. The stuff playing in shopping centers is drivel.Anybody else remember when country music was actually good and not complete garbage?

It's partly that I'm completely oblivious to new music (post 1990) of any genre. I listen to classic stations, and don't have a streaming service, so I'm way out of touch.I think that's not entirely fair as there are loads of great country singers/bands that are keeping good music flowing. For example, Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Hal Ketchum, Clint Black, Alan Jackson, Rick Trevino, George Strait, Tyler Childers, Cory Morrow, Pat Green, Robert Earl Keen, Charlie Robison, ad nauseum. As with many things, the problem is oversaturation of generic junk that is force-fed to the masses and hyped through constant advertisements and self-serving award ceremonies.
No complaints from me. Heck, I think Garth put out one of the best country songs of all time:
This one is quite the banger as well:
