This Rockstar asked me for a Fiddleback for her 12th birthday today after her Birthday dinner. I was so proud she was wanting her very own knife .. and she called it by name. I asked her, exactly which one of my Fiddlebacks were you thinking about? To which she said, 'Can I have the 3 finger Karda?'. I was like, *whew* .. cause for a second I thought she might be asking for the Camp Knife in electric orange shadetree. lol. So we go to the drawer and pull out the Karda and I motion over to the sheath area, 'pick yourself out a sheath from those (motioning to the neck knife arrowhead sheaths). "this one will do for now but can you show me how to make one with a wolf's head on it?" Uh .. yeah .. but not tonight. Go cut something .. and make sure it's NOT your finger. :D

The spalting on that knife is sick. Congrats on having a daughter that is into that kind of stuff! I dig it.

Awesome!!! My girls are a bit younger, but they want me to teach them knife skills already. Congrats and Happy birthday to your daughter!

Cool thread. That's the best way to hand something down, give it to them when they're young. Otherwise you (I) end up trading or selling it.

Nice! I too have a daughter who no doubtedly will be asking for a knife in a few years. She's now 5 and somewhat a seasoned coyote hunter. I thinks it's awesome to watch daughters gain strength in labeled male interests. Im quite certain it makes a strong woman later in life.

Happy Birthday to your Daughter and what a great choice for her present. Great looking knife and sheath.

That was a good practical choice on her part. Smart girl. I agree on the previous comments about the beautiful spalting.

It is good that she didn't ask for the Electric Orange Camp Knife. You are going to need that one to make an impression on the guys in a few years when she starts dating. ;)

Daughters rule. I have 4(!).

My daughters get SAKs, but that's only because they lose them. One of my good friends here gave me his grandfather's slipjoint. He's in his 60's so it's a pretty old knife with lots of history. That'll get passed down, but I'll wait a while for that!

Good for you man.

Now that is an awesome birthday present! Lucky girl.

Way to go dad!

Ps. My birthday is in October and I would like the bushcraft karda!

Beautiful knife she picked out! Gotta make you feel good. Mine is 5 and she asked for a Ferro Rod, Flashlight, and SAK just like daddies. Made me dang proud lol

This is a heart warming thread for me. But I'm jealous. My kids don't know what a 3 finger karda is....

Hell, my wife doesn't know that either.

Hey Bud:

Better keep that Camp Knife ready for Sweet 16......we all know that you can't just have 1 Fiddleback.

Best wishes to your Daughter !

Peter

Cool story Bud. I gave my now 12 y.o. grandson my first big game hunting knife when he was 11 y.o. This is the same age that I was when I received it as a Christmas gift from my father. Long story short, he cannot find this knife. When I am fiddling with my collection, he will inquire about certain knives, and weather or not he might be able to have one, or more. Unfortunately, I have to tell him that when he produces that Kbar hunter, then I will consider it.

I have to say that he has had a rough couple of years with significant disruptions in his life. So I will likely forgive this lack of focus on his part in the not too distant future, but for now I am sticking to my guns on it.

That's awesome! I picked up a three finger Karda for my daughter for when she is older. However she still has a number of years to go since she is currently 2.

Pretty cool. My one kid is still pretty young, but I do hope one day she (and any future kids of mine) show some interest in Daddy's hobbies.

Awesome! I've been starting teaching my about-to-be seven year old safe handling techniques. She's pretty stoked when I let her handle a Fiddleback, but it will be a good long while before she gets where your daughter is now. Something to look forward to, though. 👍

That's awesome Bud! She has great taste in knives.

My son's been learning the ropes on a Mora Scout. His 10th birthday is 2 weeks away. I've been contemplating letting him pick out a Fiddleback as a "graduation" of sorts.
