i was looking at the rc3 but i want a more bushcrafty/edc so i want a carbon steel knife under 4 inch good for bush craft and a good edc any suggestions are welcome.

koster bushy i think is ~100$ depending on what you use for scales and steel

based on what i know the RC3 is a good bushcraft knife that is easy to EDC-slim and light.

a more narrow blade is typically associated with bushcraft...

journeyman
button hole knife

i know bark river is good stuff, i don't know about the other. looks decent though...

i'm having trouble thinking of anything off the top of my head, i just did a search over at KSF

Put $100 + bushcrafty + production together and you get RC-3.....................
The only other alternative I can think of is Fallkniven F1.

Can't get a barky for that price.

Why specify production though? Lots of great semi-customs easily make your specs and might even be had faster than production delivery.

Bob, I think for edc a folder would do you well in your neck of the woods.. a sak with a saw is real handy, or if your mind is set on carbon get an opinel Good carbon steel folder with a convex ground edge...for a fixed blade we got a lot of great makers here on the forum that'd do you well for around that price.. Bryan Breeden, Stomper, to name but a few... That being said my favorite mid range fixed blade is a fallkniven f1 right about 100bucks. If I were you however I'd go to ragweedforge.com and get either a mora carbon clipper or a mora 510..and an opinel #7 for about 10-20 bucks total..all have carbon steel and have served me well, both in bushcraft and hunting tasks. I'd take the extra 90 beans and get yourself some good quality gear.. a ruck or a sleeping bag,a canteen, some good buscraft books some fire steels maybe..after you've worked with a mora and an opinel or a sak for a while you'll have a clearer idea about how to progress with your own selection... and as many here with hundreds of knives will tell you a mora is always a nice thing to have and a good way to start.

if you are set on a production, i would go with the bark river snowy river. but if you are going to spend $100, breeden, koyote , stomper, dan farmer ( and others) can all get you an awsome blade for the same price range.

Mora, Järvenpää, BRKT Kephart, Enzo, Brusletto ,Helle, Fallkniven (not carbon)..

Production Bushcrafters are hard to find unless you go to the Scandinavian side. You can use almost any Production knife for Bushcraft but you may be giving something up. I true Bushcrafter is more of something on the custom knife scene. Heck, you can really use anything that works for you. I consider a Swiss Army Knife to be a Bushcrafter. It will drill (awl) and cut, slice, and whittle better than most knives!

How about the Spyderco Bushcraft that is upcoming? It's shaping up to be real nice and I think $100 was about the range they were working for.

If you can accept stainless the Fallkniven F1 is one of my recommendations. The Fallkniven H1 as second (a bit over 100 bucks though) You might get older VG10 only H1s for less than 100 but you should trade those with collectors.

Just stay away from the Gerber LMF II, it is useless for bushcraft.

I forgot about those Enzo's Spooky - but that is a great recommendation. If he gets the kit he would be under his range and have an awesome knife (Ben's Backwoods offers the kits - get the O1 mode; Note Ben's also offers mini-northstar for $5 above your price point).

The puuko's are also great choices....Not sure where my head was yesterday.
Mora 2000, for $30.
Orion Knives - the K2-Kaper model

Still, I'd still go with a custom: Breeden, Landi, Farmer to name a few....
