For less than 50 dollars and a fixed blade
sorry i made A typo I meant to say a good budget knife -- fixed it! :)

Cold Steel Bushman, UWK or ODA. The Buck 119 or Buck Omni Hunter. Ontario Magnum Ranger.

Just about any Mora, for $9 - $12. Take a look around www.ragweedforge.com
I really like the #510($9), but alot of people like the clipper($12) as well. For as cheap as they are, you could get a dozen, and try both the carbon and stainless steel.

USA made Ka-bar's and ontario's can be had for less then $50, that would be my recomendatinon.

Not a chopper but a sog fieldpup is a good deal at around $30 And as others have said,Buck,Ka-bar,ontario and mora make some good knives in that range.US made marbles are a great deal too in my opinion.

You might take a look at some of the knives in the Ontario SPEC plus line, many of which fall into that price range and are pretty tough.

+1 on this one for the marine combat kbar. tough as nails and I even tested it out myself. You can chop, whittle, make fuzzy sticks and almost any camp chore. Maybe after you get used to the size you can do smaller bushcraft things with it too.

Ka-Bar also makes the mini USMC Combat utility knife for smaller hands or bush craft chores .Case also makes a full size USMC knife which is well made .and in your price range

Cold Steel GI tanto $17.95. search youtube under that name.

That is one tough knife.

Mora 780! Best $11 I ever spent!

I havn't gotten around to buying one yet but to those that have both, would a Mora 2000 be better or worse than a standard Mora?

As an all around survival knife/camp knife, probably better, but not sure a great deal better.

I really like the blade in the M2K, it's the sheath that could be improved. Holds the knife fine, just looks like crap! :D

I'll second the recommendation for the Mora 780. It's a very tough little knife.

If you get the Mora get a cutting tool too: saw, axe, or short machete. You'll still be under $50.

For a little more money you could get a 6" All arounder like the Ranger RD6.

Kabar, and buck are may favorites in this price range, I especially like some of the larger kabar bowies if you are looking for a chopper that will stand up to abuse.

Of corse for 50$ you could buy a Mora, a fiskars hatchet, and still a few bucks left ofer to buy survival odds and ends.

Mora 780, 760. 640. 946, 731. For under $15 all of these are great choices. For $30 the Mora 2000 may be ugly, but it's a good knife.

Guess it depends on what you want it to do also. Do you want a knife that will cut, or a sharpened pry bar?

Personally, if I had a limited budget, I'd go with something like what EmsRescueGuy suggested there. A cheap Mora (the 2000 is much more expensive than other models, and isn't that much better, in my experience), Fiskars Handy 600, and you can spend the rest on something else. :)

On the other hand, if you just want a very strong, tough knife for 50 $, then I think going for the Ka-Bar Heavy Bowie would be a good idea.
