What's a good cheap hard use folder?

I don't understand why people bother carrying a knife they wont use !?

Come on OP I've got one of my Emerson's right here in my pocket , I use the hell out of it !

C.S. A.L. - I carry and use one of those from time to time too :D

In the price range, no one thought of an Endura?!?!

Check out Spyderco, I'm definately an admitted fanboy of them.

As many others said before me, the Recon 1 is a decent choice. I just got mine a few days ago and I'm pretty happy with it for the price. I bought mine for 58 dollars on Amazon, with free shipping.

For good cheap beaters you can't go wrong with a large kabar/dozier(the one with the thumb hole as its ground thinner than the thumb stud version)
or a rat-1 which is a great slicer with backbone.
They are 3 times the value of their sub-30$ price, the aus-8 in both is pretty good.

For 25 bucks the pocket bushmen is a steal. Super strong lock, decent blade steel and a very capable blade shape.

I just got a pocket bushman
I really like it and its very tough
I have batoned some pretty knotted stuff with it
for 25 bucks, its a steal!

My vote goes for kershaw junkyard dog 2 composite. Been beating the crap out of mine 3 years strong. D2 is hard to sharpen but holds the edge for a long time.

This is as cheap and as simple hard use as you can get......

I have the orange handle (not shown)...
cost me 10 bucks...batoned it through several good sized oak limbs about 4 inches across and no ill to the knife. No lock, no spring, just and old fashioned clasp knife in high carbon steel....gonna K&G Gun Kote the blade some time with orange or black ....

Got a JYDII-CB & Manix2 that've both done well in the hard use role.
May also want to check out the Boker Resurrection for around $50.

I like the Chinese Spydercos. Those things are built really well, come really sharp and they are affordable. I've owned a lot of Kershaw/ZT knives and haven't been too impressed. The heat treats aren't always good and I've had to send a ton back because of QC issues. I'm done with KAI personally.

I have a couple Meyerco Lightfoot Catchdogs. Great heavy-duty folder, can really take a pounding. I pick mine up for $22 from knifecenter, or you can get them for $25-30 on ebay.

Becker Knife and Tool BK-11. Why even mess around with a folder, when you can get a stout, tough little SOB of a fixed blade. I carry mine almost daily, and barely notice it. It fit under the seat of all three of the sportbikes I have owned, so I am sure you can stash it somewhere on your ride.
