whats a good everyday sak

swiss champ , mine lives in my car or my pocket

I am with SIRGALANT.... My Champ has ANYTHING I might need in the way of (43) small tools. It comes out at least 3 times a day. I tend to use the magnifying glass (loupe) a lot.... Thing weighs like a big dog but I feel nekkid without it dragging down my jeans. Hardly notice it anymore.

I am loath to lose any functionaliy of a tool on my SAK and would not take such drastic action myself, although I have heard if others doing what you have done.

I know what you mean. But for me, I was losing functionality by not being able to go into recessed areas without reshaping it. So I saw it as a trade of functionality that I didn't use (can opener) for functionality that I do use (recess accessible screwdriver).

I read in Victorinox's book "A Friend In Need" of several times where a screwdriver came to the rescue (like repairing an airplane window while in flight) but I don't remember reading about the can opener saving the day.

I like both the Tinker, and the Hiker....The hiker is basically the tinker with a saw added that can come in handy in rural areas.

I have two main SAKs that I edc. If i'm at work I usually have a mechanic, otherwise I carry a Soldier. For most EDC, I usually like 3 layers or less.

Top picture: Is the second one from the left a Cadet II? How has it been working for you as EDC? Is it noticeably bulky, and has the tool selection been adequate for most tasks? Have you found any need for tweezers much? Thanks for any answers...

Yes, a Cadet II (has a small utility blade instead of nail file). I always EDC that one with a larger folder of some sort. Not noticeably bulky, in fact it's really slim, which is why I put a box lanyard on it. A great knife - I never have had a use for tweezers and toothpick, though. Mostly used for opening smaller boxes and such, use the bottle opener for unscrewing larger bolts and for popping beers - you could probably use it also for light prying, though I haven't. A good looking, thin, people friendly, and useful SAK. I also like (but don't have) the Wenger Standard Issue and the Vic Farmer.

For me, the Vic Compact is a great EDC knife for a majority of everyday cutting tasks. About 15-16 functions in just 2 layers. Sweet! =)

I like the alox farmer for compactness, and the cybertool for a larger sak. The screwdriver set on the cybertool is great.

the mini champ doesnt have a bottle openeer or can or bottle opener. I like the spartan
The Victorinox Midnite MinichampII has a bottle opener and magnetized Phillips head combo. Here's the full list of tools on it:
blade, scissors, retractable pen, nail file, nail cleaner, emergency blade, cut & picker blade, scraper, cap lifter, magnetic Phillips screwdriver tip, wire stripper, mini light, ruler, small screwdriver, cuticle pusher, key ring, 58 mm (2.28 in.) closed .

I've EDCed this with the Leatherman Squirt P4 for the past few years and just switched to the Cybertool41 as my EDC last week.

Great choices !!

I always have a MiniChamp and Keymate on my keychain :)

Carry a LM Juice KF4 in my pocket for formal occasions :)

Have a LM Charge clipped to my belt most other times :D
