What's a good knife to strap on your back pac?

I carry a ZT 0150 along with a Spec Bump. The Spec bump is on my right shoulder, and the 0150 goes wherever I feel like, sometimes the left strap, sometimes on my belt.

Thanks fellas, i'm really interested in getting some type of knife, is rat my only option? I like the Gerber LMB i think, can that be mounted on a shoulder back pacs strap. Also thanks for the picture! (My gf says youre cute)

RAT Cutlery is not your only option, but it's all you'd ever need. And with the warranty you can be sure you'll have it for life.

OK, here it is, ANY knife can be lashed to your chest or a pack strap. The wisdom of doing so is dependent upon the situation.

What you want to know is "What sheath or sheathmaker can satisfy XXX requirements?"

If you want to know what knife you should get you have to tell us what the knife will be used for.

If the purpose of the knife is bear protection or woodland ninja combat you should refrain from even asking and go get one of these:

If you want a bigger knife than an Izula, get an RC-4. Jump proof sheath, could be put on your strap. Better yet, get two. A smaller knife for your shoulder, and a bigger blade for the pack.

I wouldn't recommend putting a large fixed blade on your strap though. Even a small fall could be disastrous with a 6-7" rigid knife in its sheath. Get a good pack with MOLLE straps and put the knife on the side of your pack.

You don't understand. Forget the falls! The thing that could be disastrous is not having immediate access to a large fixed blade when a big cat or a bear attacks! And don't forget about forest pirates! You obviously don't know what you are talking about with your puny little neck knife on the shoulder. How are you going to survive a BEAR ATTACK! Huh?

I'm waiting.....

Don't have an answer do ya?

Didn't think so!

Is the purpose of this knife to be for fighting bears/ Mt lions? I dont think Glock really mentioned that. He just said he wanted it in case he needed it and that it would only be useful if it was easily accessible. That may imply for defense against wild animals, but not directly.

If that is the case, then it would seem he is going to need a big knife (if not some high quality pepper spray:)). I have found it really uncomfortable to strap large knives to my shoulder harnesses. Just out of curiosity, have you tried that Glock? Have you considered a bike harness for a larger knife? Maybe some sort of "on the back" carry method -so that you could reach over your shoulder and still grab the knife?

Ontario sp-1, Tops Mil-Spie 5, Kabar 1259, or the Fehrman first strike combo kit. I have 'em all, and they never failed me once.

Most are under $100.00 but the Fehrman will cost you!
