im making a strop for brkt highland and i want to pack it and i dont want a full size strop so whats the smallest you would go

I'd say a a 3-4" piece of 1" wide leather would due fine, just load it before you go.

CALLING SIGUY! Post pics!

Siguy posted a system with an altoids tin with a piece of mousepad glued on, with various grits of sandpaper. I copied it and it works GREAT! Very small, very packable, and can even repair damaged edges when backpacking/camping. I would post pics of mine but, alas, I don't have any yet and I don't have a camera right now.

The best strop I own is around my waist.

Wear a good quality old-fashioned leather belt and never worry about 'carrying' a strop again.

You can use it naked or even carry a bit of paste if needed and work that in.

have no fear...SIGUY IS HERE!! ;)

rescueriley sent me the original version that i have been touting around here...it is a great little device and absolutely genuis. i'm just spreadin the love...

this model has a piece of leather glued to the back so that it can be loaded to be used as a strop. i prefer to carry a piece of paper inside that's loaded with compound so that it won't make a mess in my pack or pocket. i also carry 0.5 micron film (strop grit) that works well too. the nice thing about this is you can carry a ton of paper in any grit you can imagine. really works great and costs less than a dollar to make and then the paper is also cheap.

I have a fine diamond plate for sharpening that is about 3-1/2 inches long and I glued a piece of leather cut to size on the back and load it before heading out into the field. It samll and fits very confortably in a pocket or possibles bag.

Argueing with a Biker is like wrestling with a pig.
Pretty soon you realize the pig enjoys it.

I've been using these & they've worked well so far;

1 1/2" X 4 1/2" stiff leather with Bark River compound.

I have a couple spares you can have if you'd like to try them.

Man. I just strop on the leg of my shorts or pants. After a couple days out, they are dirty enough they work pretty well!

Creativeness never ceases to amaze me!
SIGUY you have given me a new project.

I agree the belt would work well. At home, I have a small piece of leather I use that is about 2" by 2". Its small enough that it would fit in a pocket really easily on a hike.
